A Florida man who vandalized a mosque with bacon and a machete might be facing a surprisingly stiff penalty for his actions.
Video surveillance captured Michael Wolfe, 35, attacking the Islamic Society of Central Florida Masjid Al-Munin Mosque in Titusville on New Year’s Eve with a machete and leaving raw bacon scattered around the front entrance to the building.
Police said Wolfe, dressed in camouflage pants, was alone when he broke into the mosque and slashed windows, lights and other property before he left behind pieces of raw bacon around the building’s front entrance.
The state attorney’s office brought formal charges against Wolf, a convicted felon, earlier this month. He faces two charges of hate crime enhancements, meaning any punishment, if Wolfe is convicted, is increased. In the case of armed burglary charge, Wolfe could face up to life in prison if found guilty.
However, everything hinges on the judge’s decision in the case and there is also the the possibility of plea deal being reached.
Wolfe continues to be held at the Brevard County Jail without bond while awaiting trial.

Imam Muhammad Mursi, president of the Islamic Society of Central Florida said he was glad the attorney’s office was treating the case as a hate crime.
“We have been hoping for that to happen. It was clearly a hate crime,” he said.
“Obviously, we were lucky that no one was there that night. He had a machete; someone could have been killed.”
A trial date has not been set.
Wolfe should pay for his crime but his actions represent a growing anxiety about Muslims that President Barack Obama refuses to address.
