Dashcam footage captured from police vehicles often reveal the gritty side of police work. Recently, the dashcam video associated with one of the most heinous crimes in Russell County, Alabama, has been released, and it is truly shocking.
In February 2002, two robbers slashed a man’s throat, shot his 12-year-old son, and then threw them both in a shallow grave.
In the video, a Russell County Sheriff’s deputy could be heard reporting what he discovered: “I got a man that’s been cut to hell and said his son’s been shot three times, is buried in a grave down here at Uchee, and he wants to go get him. He (Butch) was buried and dug himself out; this is a bad one.”
Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor said Bowyer walked a quarter mile before getting help. He was able to direct police to the grave where he and his son had been dumped.
Bowyer also knew who slit his throat and shot his 12-year-old son, Brett. He told police in the video that one of the perpetrators was Jim Brooks.
Brooks told the investigator handling the case that Michael Carruth had been the mastermind of the crime.
It didn’t take long for police to arrest Brooks and his accomplice, Michael Carruth.
Brooks and Carruth have been on death row for the last 12 years, and Bowyer is still waiting for them to be put to death.
Kenny Davis, Russell County district attorney, does not know when that will happen, as the two murderers continue to appeal their sentences. He did say that the average stay on death row in Alabama is 16 years
This video reveals the the incredible moment police discovered a man who had survived a horrifying crime. We can only hope Bowyer sees justice served to Brooks and Carruth.
