Melania Shows Love for the Troops with Bombshell Statement Following Syrian Strikes
In a statement published on her Twitter account after the U.S. military’s strike in Syria, first lady Melania Trump showed love for troops and their families and their commitment to America’s freedom.
The first lady made the statement on Saturday morning, hours after her husband’s administration, along with France and the United Kingdom, struck facilities associated with the Syrian regime’s chemical weapons program.
“Thank you to the strong & courageous members of our U.S. military all over the world!” the first lady wrote.
“Your continued contributions & commitment to the safety of our great nation will never go unnoticed or unappreciated.”
“And to all military families, especially the children, thank you for your sacrifice,” she added in a second tweet, along with the hashtag #monthofthemilitarychild.
April is the Month of the Military Child — which, according to the Department of Defense, is meant to honor the 1.88 million children of service members and their “unique contributions and sacrifices on behalf of our country.”
Melania was far from the only member of the Trump family taking to Twitter in the wake of the Syria attack, although her message was significantly different than that of her husband.
“A perfectly executed strike last night,” Trump tweeted later on Saturday.
“Thank you to France and the United Kingdom for their wisdom and the power of their fine Military. Could not have had a better result. Mission Accomplished!”
“So proud of our great Military which will soon be, after the spending of billions of fully approved dollars, the finest that our Country has ever had,” the president added.
“There won’t be anything, or anyone, even close!”
The reaction on Twitter to Melania’s tweets was, by in large, positive.
Of course, there were those apparently bravely willing to use the occasion of expressing gratitude toward our troops and instead turn it into a forum to vent their liberal spleens:
Yes, apparently “establish(ing) a strong deterrent against the production, spread and use of chemical weapons” isn’t “a vital national security interest of the United States,” as the president said. Chemical weapons proliferation in a rogue state isn’t all that important to the world’s primary superpower. And a message to our troops from the first lady is clearly the place to nit-pick about that if you’re a journalist with the Twitter blue check of approval.
Katy Stoll, you are a brave, amazing person — clearly braver than the men and women that the first lady was endeavoring to thank. Bravo, Ms. Stoll, and thank you for your important contribution, which was in no way ill-conceived.
The rest of us, however, will sensibly note the fact this was a nice note from the first lady to the troops and move along.
