As the debate surrounding immigration heats up in the United States, a woman and her child in Serbia have shown why extreme vetting is necessary before allowing people into our country.
According to the U.K. Express, a Serbian woman named Ana Blazic was pushing her newborn son in a stroller along a sidewalk with her two young nephews in Obrenovac when several migrant men approached her and pushed her in an attempt to take the child.
The terrified mother said she held on to the stroller and fought with all of her strength to prevent the men from taking her baby away from her.
“Many things crossed my mind in that moment,” Blazic said. “I thought my baby would fall out of the pram and be hurt and paralyzed.”
The woman had been trying to have a baby for 10 years before successfully conceiving through assisted reproductive technology, so she was determined that she wouldn’t lose the son she had waited so long for.
Fortunately, a man who happened to be passing by saw what was going on and began shouting at the migrants to leave the woman and her child alone, which scared them off.
“I am still in shock and I can’t stop thinking what could have happened,” she said, asking the man who intervened to come forward so she could thank him.
Four suspects — natives of Afghanistan and Pakistan — were arrested after the incident, as video footage captured them and a teller at a nearby currency exchange business identified them.
You can watch video footage of the accused men here (NOTE: The video is not clear, and does not show any details of the alleged attack):
Predrag Velimirovic, Blazic’s brother whose two children were walking with her at the time of the attack, said he no longer feels safe in his hometown, about 20 miles from the Serbian capital of Belgrade. He said his children were terrified by the incident.
This is exactly why conservatives have been demanding that our security officials be able to properly and thoroughly vet any migrant attempting to enter the United States. While not every migrant is a criminal, who would try to kidnap a child? We cannot — and should not — take the chance that even a few them may have evil intentions.
