Riots have broken out in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, after police shot an African-American man who was armed. The protesters have burned down businesses, shot each other (which doesn’t make a lot of sense) and injured multiple police officers.
King called on those in the streets, and those in power, to “pray first, and then act” to avoid further bloodshed. It shouldn’t surprise anyone that the niece of a man who changed the country through non-violent protests doesn’t approve of protesters looting and rioting in the name of equality.

“We must stop, we must have reason and sanity,” King said, stating that only when cooler heads prevail can Americans come to the table and have an honest discussion about race relations.
“We’ve got to stop this,” she said, referring to the rioting. “If I sound like I’m a little agitated, I am. But I believe in the midst of this agitation, we can pray and we can find solutions.”
While it would be naive to say that there is no racial bias in America, burning down gas stations, shooting civilians and throwing cement at police officers is no way to end it. In fact, it will probably only make it worse.
Police officers are sometimes forced to kill people who are armed — that is a fact of life. Instead of protesting what the police officer did, maybe these people should protest the liberal policies that have done more harm for minority communities than anything else.
Violent protests never bring about change. If you want to protest, that is your right — but do it peacefully.
