Mom Furious After Child Gets Disturbing Call on Kids' App

Share

This is just sick.

An alarmed mother posted a video to both YouTube and Reddit sharing her experience with a horrific app from the Google Play store that her child had downloaded on her Android phone. Her YouTube video has gone viral, with (ironically enough) over 666,000 views as of this writing.

The app, innocuously titled “Call Blaze And The Monster Machines,” referencing a popular kids’ television show on the Nick Jr. network, is free of charge and is apparently designed to look like an official product of the TV series, but it is not.

After activating the app, the mother was forced to close a number of pop-up advertisements, some of them that appear inappropriate for the eyes of children, before getting to the actual program.

Listen to what happens when she activates the play “call” feature of the app:

The mother, identified by The Sun as Danielle Ollerenshaw, uploaded the video to warn others about the need to be vigilant when it comes to allowing children unrestricted or unsupervised access to smartphones or other mobile devices.

“You guys as parents need to be monitoring what they’re watching and what they’re downloading because I’ve really learned my lesson from this,” she says in the video.

While displaying the app on her phone, she relates, “I was in the other room, I heard this demonic voice and I’m like ‘what on earth is my daughter watching, that sounds really evil’ so I’ve come flying into the other room and I’ve heard something suggesting that it was going to stab my daughter.”

Did you find this app on your phone?

“I am absolutely horrified, disgusted,” she continues. “I just I can’t believe that in this day and age people would actually do this — like, what are they trying to achieve? This is vile, disgusting, inhumane behavior.”

The app has since been removed from the Google Play store, according to The Daily Dot.

However, there are other apps still live and available for download that appear to be similar in function and content.

“One redditor says the app is a reskinned version of ‘Call from Slapy dummy doll,’ a prank call app that is currently live in the Play Store,” The Daily Dot reported. “Another says the voice comes from the survival horror video game Bendy and the Ink Machine.”

How can you, as a parent, protect your children from these malicious apps? Thankfully, there are many resources available. For example, PC Magazine has a list of parental control apps for smartphones of all types that parents can use to secure their mobile devices.

However, the most important tool a parent can use is their common sense: don’t allow young children unrestricted and unsupervised use of smartphones and other mobile devices.
