Horror: NC Mom's Disabled Daughter Used for Pro-Abortion Poster

Share

A North Carolina mother was shocked when she discovered her 9-year-old daughter’s photograph was being used to promote abortion for unborn babies who may be disabled.

Natalie Weaver was scrolling through Twiiter when she saw her daughter, Sophie, who was born with debilitating conditions, including Rett syndrome, being used to promote abortion.

Rett syndrome is a rare, neurological disorder seen almost entirely among baby girls that affects their ability to eat, speak and walk.

The infuriating Twitter post that included Weaver’s daughter said:

“It is okay to think that every child matters however a lot of them do not hence the amnio test. (It) should be a mandatory test and if it proves negative and the woman does not want to abort then all bills accrued after that is on her and the father,” Fox News reported.

In Twitter postings, Weaver said that she and her husband did have private insurance.

Weaver, understandably angry, complained to Twitter about the user, identifed in the Fox report as @OBSIDIANSMOAK. Her first attempts to get the Twitter account suspended were not successful. However, after she turned to social media for help, Twitter finally suspended the account and apologized.

“When we make a mistake, we work to ensure it’s quickly corrected,” a Twitter spokeswoman said in an email statement, according to Fox. “Our team reviewed the report again and suspended the account in accordance with the Twitter Rules.”

Weaver, a disability advocate, is also a self-described Democrat who is “Pro-Choice.”

Should this Twitter account have been suspended?

While she was happy to see her story getting attention, she was stressed that some news outlets attempted to turn it into a political issue.

She explained on Twitter that she had two goals for sharing her story. The first goal was to get the Twitter account that was using her daughter’s image suspended.

The other goal was to encourage Twitter to include disabilities in its violation-reporting policies.

In a Facebook post, Weaver said she was aware of both sides of the issue, but that the issue was not a political one for her, and she would appreciate others keeping politics out of it.

She described the person who used the image of Sophie as a “hateful creep who discriminates against children with disabilities and promotes eugenics.”

Well said.

We live in a country where free speech is a right, and that even applies to hateful creeps. But is this kind of message really necessary?

Weaver was well within her rights to be angry and go after this Twitter user.

Weaver’s daughter, who is loved and has every right to live on this planet, did not deserve to be treated so hatefully.

We all deserve to be treated equally and fairly. This is especially true for those among us who are vulnerable and cannot speak for themselves.
