Movie Star Kirstie Alley Blasts Bette Midler for 'Degrading' Joke About Black Trump Supporters

Share

Has-been entertainer Bette Midler is not a fan of Donald Trump, nor is she afraid to make her views about the president known.

But Midler went too far this week with what many saw as a racist attack on black Trump supporters.

On Wednesday, Midler posted a photo of a Trump 2020 rally in which some African-Americans are visible in the background.

“Look, there are African American men in this shot!” Midler tweeted. “How much did he pay them to be ‘blackground’?”

Many users were offended, and rightfully so.

“So you are saying Black folks are stupid and desperate,” black conservative commentator Brandon Tatum, a former police officer, responded. “We cannot have a diversity of thought like white people?”

Was Midler's tweet racist?

“We better get our black a** back in line like you racist white Democrats believe we should be? I’ve been to WH 3x & 2 rallies VIP, never got a dime.”

Among Midler’s harshest critics was fellow actress Kirstie Alley, who’s starred in films like “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan” and TV shows like “Cheers.”

The real racist is Midler, Alley wrote, for suggesting that black people need to be paid in order to express their own political views.

“This is one of the most racist, degrading ‘jokes’ I’ve seen on Twitter & that’s saying a lot,” Alley tweeted Thursday.

“We get it Bette, you hate Trump & that’s your right but to imply Black men have to be PAID to celebrate their OWN political views is pure and REAL racism. And ‘BLACKGROUND’?? WTF??!!” she added.

It’s fair criticism. Many liberals treat black conservatives as though they’re traitors to the Democratic Party for daring to think for themselves, then go on to call Republicans the racist ones, which is hypocritical, to say the least.

As Fox News noted, Midler has received criticism from across the Twitter-sphere.

But she had yet to apologize as of Friday afternoon.
