MSNBC Anchor Has the Most Pathetic Meltdown We Have Ever Seen over Kavanaugh Ceremony
If you needed proof that the presidency of one Donald J. Trump has sent the media into an upside-down world of absolute insanity, this is it: MSNBC is often funnier than Comedy Central.
This is partially due to the carefully controlled po-faced outrage “Daily Show” host Trevor Noah seems to exude when he’s not talking about his dead dog, but most of the credit for this transformation comes from the inadvertent humor MSNBC keeps on churning out.
You’ve all seen the hilarious clip of Rachel Maddow’s meltdown on election night 2016. “You’re awake by the way,” Maddow intoned. “You’re not having a terrible, terrible dream. Also, you’re not dead and you haven’t gone to hell. This is your life now.”
Yeah — a life where Hillary Clinton isn’t president and “The Rachel Maddow Show” is suddenly giving viewers more bad laughs than “Road House.” I can totally deal with that.
You know what I can also totally deal with? Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, and MSNBC’s Chris Hayes having a Twitter meltdown over it.
The meltdown was actually over Trump’s speech before Kavanaugh’s swearing-in on Monday, which the host of “All In with Chris Hayes” thought was actually a coverup for the judge’s testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee and was actually related to the Mueller investigation.
I wish I had the spark of comedic genius to make that one up. Alas, I come before you as an ordinary man reporting on a bespectacled cable news pundit going Fukushima Daiichi on social media.
The part that triggered Hayes actually had to do with an apology the president delivered to Kavanaugh for the treatment he received during the confirmation process.
“I would like to begin tonight’s proceeding differently than perhaps any other event of such magnitude,” Trump said.
“On behalf of our nation, I want to apologize to Brett and the entire Kavanaugh family for the terrible pain and suffering you have been forced to endure. Those who step forward to serve our country deserve a fair and dignified evaluation, not a campaign of political and personal destruction based on lies and deception.
“What happened to the Kavanaugh family violates every notion of fairness, decency and due process,” he concluded.

Yes, okay — so nobody can technically be “proven innocent” in a case where the only evidence involves testimony. However, one senses the president was probably trying to get this kind of reaction, forcing members of the media to admit they wanted to believe what Christine Blasey Ford said no matter how problematic her story was.
Hayes went a bit further than that, however:
I now realize this speech is happening to erase the memory of his Thursday performance so it's not the last thing in people's minds before he takes the seat on the court.

¿Qué?
I can totally grasp this probably isn’t the best time for liberals. I feel your pain. (Well, not really, but let’s pretend I do.)
However, take a bit of advice from the other side of the aisle: It makes you seem a bit like John Nash with his pieces of string when you’re connecting a snippet of a speech involving the swearing-in of a Supreme Court justice to the Mueller investigation. It’s not a good look.
It is, however, an exceedingly funny one. I personally can’t wait for Tuesday’s “All In.” It’s going to be a lot funnier than whatever “The Daily Show” might have to say about the speech.
