MSNBC Host Says 'Disgusting' Trump Should Be 'Impeached for Having No Soul'

Share

Impeachment has been a running theme from the left since before President Donald Trump was elected. The reasons given for it have varied.

They have included attacks against his mental fitness and outrage over his alleged “s—hole” comment. Some of the more serious sounding reasons offered include accusations of obstruction of justice, witness intimidation, and abuse of power.

In the midst of all of that rhetoric, civility became part of the Democrat messaging last year, at least from some of them. Both then-Rep. Nancy Pelosi and then-House Minority Leader Chuck Schumer pushed for such good behavior, reported Mic.

But not everyone was on board with the civility game plan. Some feared it would give Republicans a staggering win in the 2018 mid-terms.

It appears that the resistance to civility may have won out. One example of this comes by way of MSNBC’s “Deadline: White House,” host Nicolle Wallace, who also offered a new reason why Trump should be impeached. You can see the entire clip here.

The panel discussed the optics of the partial government shutdown. Then Wallace chimed in with her feelings.

“I don’t want to make the folks in the control room use the delay button, but my disgust, my disgust, I’m sure that is right, but this is all about optics, narratives. It is disgusting! He should be impeached for having no soul,” she said.

Should President Trump be impeached?

Aside from the fact that impeachment doesn’t work that way is the fact that once again we see incivility toward the sitting president. And this is coming from the media.

The claim that the president has “no soul” is ludicrous and over-the-top. There is certainly no civility in such a statement.

Beyond that, Wallace claimed that Trump’s stance is “all about optics.” There is no consideration in that given for his repeated statements and actions toward increasing security along the U.S. border with Mexico.

Some could argue that it is in fact Wallace who is “all about optics.” Her claim could give the appearance of attempting to appeal to the resistance crowd and others who hate Trump.

A graduate of Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism and a political analyst, Wallace should know how to give unbiased reporting. Claiming a president “has no soul” doesn’t fit true journalism or political analysis.

Stating to an international audience that her president should be impeached over such a claim is the epitome of irresponsible journalism. There is no true political analysis in that kind of rhetoric.

The podcast description for the show states that the purpose as offering “Political insight and clarity on where the decision-makers stand on complex issues.” If that is the same goal for the broadcast version, it has fallen short with the host, Wallace, talking about impeaching a “soulless” sitting president.

There are ways to share differing views and express political opposition without resorting to incivility. But perhaps that doesn’t serve the optics quite as well.
