A 20-year-old Afghan woman is hoping to travel to Turkey for reconstructive surgery after her husband cut off her nose when the couple argued about the man taking his uncle’s 6-year-old daughter as his fiancée.
The U.K. Daily Mail explained that the woman, Reza Gul and her husband, Muhammad Khan, 25, had been married for six years. Gul’s mother admitted to the fact that Khan had regularly beaten his wife before this particular incident.
On a Sunday afternoon, Gul and Khan argued over Khan’s decision to take his uncle’s young daughter as his second wife. Khan then confronted his wife, cut off her nose with a knife and threw her on the back of a motorcycle with the aid of his brother.

The two were planning to take Gul to an undisclosed location so they could kill her, but residents of the village found out and Khan fled the scene.
Gul was taken to a hospital in Maimana, the provincial capital, and according to a Maroof Samar, a doctor in the area, Gul was in “very critical condition when she was brought in” as “she had lost much blood.”
A police official identified as Mr. Yaqubi said that “the Taliban has already arrested Muhammad Khan, and he is presently in their custody.”

It is unclear whether Mr. Khan would be tried for his crime, but it is evident that Shariah law makes allowances for cruelty toward women by Muslim men.
