Reuters is under fire for a caption that accompanied a photo on its website Tuesday that pro-Israel groups called a “new low” in anti-Israel media bias.
The photo shows a Palestinian man burning as he mishandled a Molotov cocktail he intended to throw at Israeli soldiers, which is what a lot of people would call justice.
The caption on the photo, however, via the Reuters site, stated that the man was a protester, and that the fire was put out by his “compatriots” while he was “trying to hurl (the weapon) at Israeli troops.”
The caption continued, stating that “seven Israelis and 27 Palestinians, including nine alleged attackers and eight children, have died in almost two weeks of street attacks.”
The news agency pushed a heavily pro-Palestinian message with the final sentence of the caption: “The violence has been stirred in part by Muslim anger over increasing Jewish visits to the al-Aqsa mosque compound in Jerusalem, Islam’s holiest site outside the Arabian Peninsula.”
That made it sound like it’s somehow reasonable for the man to try to throw the Molotov cocktail at the soldiers — since he was provoked by “increasing Jewish visits to the al-Aqsa mosque compound in Jerusalem.”
What the caption failed to mention at all was Temple Mount, where al-Aqsa sits, which is the considered to be the holiest site in Judaism because it was where Solomon’s Temple and the Second Temple stood. The visits that Reuters is presenting as a provocation were simply Jews honoring their own religion and heritage.
The bias and pro-Muslim agenda present in the caption has been rightly described by the prominent pro Israel media watchdog CAMERA as “a new low.”
This violent offender got exactly what he deserved when he set out to harm Israeli troops there to keep the peace as Jews visited their holiest site. Reuters should be ashamed of itself to have tried to perpetuate the “peaceful” Muslim rhetoric.
These men were not protesters … they were terrorists.
