Despite calling for the deportation of illegal immigrants, promising to build a wall at the southern border, angry protesters and the general controversy that seems to follow GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump, data from the New York primary gave the billionaire businessman something to smile about.
Trump not only won New York, he won more than half of the Hispanic vote, according to polling data gathered from The Washington Post. And the numbers certainly provided Trump something to brag about.
Trump won the Soundview area in the Bronx, which has a diverse population of blacks and Hispanics, with 100 percent of the vote. In the Jackson Heights area of Queens, which is primarily Hispanics, Trump won precincts with totals ranging from 41 percent to 87 percent of the vote.

In areas that were at least 50 percent Hispanic, Trump won 61 percent of the vote.
I'm starting to doubt the RNC's belief in Hispanic "unity." Trump won about 99% of the (GOP) Hispanic vote in NYC: https://t.co/8bujo0w9nX

Interestingly, The Post reported that according to a Gallup poll, Trump should have lost New York to either Sen. Ted Cruz or Gov. John Kasich — which only goes to show that polls cannot always be trusted.

This isn’t the first time Trump won a sizable number of Hispanic voters. He walked away from Nevada’s primary with 44 percent of the Latino vote, but that number was largely ignored by the mainstream media because it was such a small sample of voters.
His victory in New York — and his survival as a viable candidate thus far — is a conundrum for many politicians and pundits who would have never guessed that Trump would still be in the race for the White House this late in the game.
So I guess it’s not only the polls we need to listen to with a grain of salt.
