Nikki Haley Just Had 1.67 Million Twitter Followers Taken Away. Where Are Outraged Feminists?

Share

Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley is one of the most influential women in the world, but now she’s required to start anew on Twitter.

Haley’s original Twitter account had a huge following of over 1.67 million.

The original account is now archived with the handle with “AmbNikkiHaley” after she transferred the name “NikkiHaley” to her new account on Jan. 1.

“Due to State Dept rules that were changed by the outgoing administration, I have had to clear my personal Twitter account that I have had for years,” Haley tweeted from her new account Tuesday, the day her resignation from the U.N. took effect. “The followers, the history, the pictures, and all other content. Please refollow and retweet this to your friends. Here’s to 2019!”

Haley seems to be referencing Obama-era rules that are in place to prevent State Department officials from using government resources for their own benefit, according to Market Watch, which speculated that it was an early step in a future Haley presidential campaign.

In this case, the rules apply to Twitter followers, despite the fact that Haley was using her personal account.

Haley created the personal account in 2009 and accumulated followers throughout her political career. It wasn’t an account solely for her duties as a U.S. ambassador.

Did you think Nikki Haley is a future presidential contender?

The rules would be more sensible if they applied to official Twitter accounts such as “POTUS” instead of potentially stripping politicians of their personal accounts.

Since Haley is such an influential women, you would expect to hear outcry from feminists, but they’ve been radio silent — she’s always been more of a target than a favorite of the left.

Instead, most of the support for Haley comes from political commentators and other politicians.

“Everyone, please follow Ambassador Haley’s new account @NikkiHaley,” former White House staffer Anthony Scaramucci tweeted. “I thank her for her tremendous service to our country!”

Haley’s new account was also advertised by Parkland shooting survivor Kyle Kashuv.

“America thanks you for your exceptional fortitude and grace,” Kashuv tweeted.

As of late Thursday morning, Haley’s new account had accumulated over almost 280,000 followers.

Haley might not have the support of feminists, but conservatives will continue to follow her.
