Nikki to UN: We're Out! US Withdrawing From Sham UN Human Rights Council

Share

United States Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley has been nothing short of a rock star in President Donald Trump’s “America First” administration, perhaps even surpassing his expectations when he initially appointed her to the post.

She has consistently entered the den of hypocritical thieves and liars and called them out to their faces for their actions, or lack thereof in some instances, while placing them on notice that America will not sit idly by and allow the anti-American/anti-Israel status quo to continue.

Putting a point to Haley’s repeated and blunt warnings to the U.N. comes a report from Bloomberg — of course based on anonymous sources — that Haley and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo are expected to announce on Tuesday that the U.S. will be withdrawing from membership in the U.N. Human Rights Council.

Haley had hinted at such a move in a speech delivered last year in which she had called out the council’s “relentless, pathological campaign” against the nation of Israel while utterly ignoring significant human rights violations in other parts of the world, committed even by members in good standing on the council.

“For our part, the United States will not sit quietly while this body, supposedly dedicated to human rights, continues to damage the cause of human rights,” Haley said in that address.

“In the end, no speech and no structural reforms will save the members of the Human Rights Council from themselves,” she added.

The expected announcement of withdrawal comes just one day after the council’s commissioner had rebuked Trump’s immigration policies and called it “unconscionable” how the children of illegal immigrants were being separated from their parents at the southern border, ignoring the fact that similar situations occurred under previous presidents, albeit with much less intense and negative media coverage.

The council had also attacked Trump’s economic policies in the past, such as the tax cuts, which the council viewed as making income inequality even worse in America as the wealthy derived a larger benefit from the cuts than the poor.

Aside from the fact that economics and tax cuts don’t seem to be the most pressing violations of human rights, if even related at all, the attacks ignore the economic fundamentals that  those who pay the most in taxes will always benefit more from tax cuts than those who pay very little in the first place.

Do you agree with the decision by the U.S. to pull out of the U.N. Human Rights Council?

According to The Associated Press, the expected withdrawal from the council is just the latest example of Trump’s “America First” policy in action, as Trump has withdrawn the U.S. from other multilateral agreements and organizations that weren’t serving the interests of America or Americans, such as the Paris Climate Accord or the Iran nuclear deal.

Though the critics may decry the move, its not like they weren’t given ample warning such an event could occur, as Haley had previously denounced the council as a “forum for politics, hypocrisy and evasion” whose own members — such as Burundi, China, Cuba, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela — failed to “uphold the highest standards” on human rights that they sought to apply to everyone else, but especially Israel.

Haley has also taken great issue with the fact Israel is perennially picked on by the council — indeed, they are the only nation to be denounced at each meeting with a permanent agenda item against them — while the abuses that routinely occur in Gaza by Hamas or the West Bank by the Palestinian Authority go unmentioned.

It is worth noting that while the pullout is hugely symbolic as a slap in the face of the council, the U.S. would have stepped down from an active role in the council in 2019 regardless, as its current three-year term would have expired.

It is also worth pointing out that the council has only been in existence since 2006, and the U.S. didn’t even join it until 2009 under former President Barack Obama, as then-U.N. Ambassador John Bolton under the former Bush administration had criticized the council at its formation.

This is great news for Americans who have grown exceedingly impatient and intolerant of the U.N.’s overt bias against America and Israel and their hypocritically duplicitous actions in that regard.

Perhaps the only drawback to this move is the fact that the U.S. will no longer be able to block the council’s repeated efforts at smacking Israel with anti-Semitic resolutions, but Trump and Haley will likely find a way to still get their pro-Israel message across regardless.
