NY Times Story Literally Has "Mad Dog" Mattis Laughing at How Wrong It Is
Secretary of Defense Gen. James “Mad Dog” Mattis laughed off a story — literally — that claimed the White House was upset with the Pentagon for not producing an adequate strategy to address the threat of North Korea.
On Thursday, a New York Times report claimed the White House has been “frustrated” for several months with Mattis and the Pentagon for not presenting enough options to quell the rogue regime in Pyongyang.
Aside from the left-leaning paper sowing together anything it can to levy attacks on the Trump administration, one can’t help but laugh at the notion that “Mad Dog” doesn’t have any ideas to put North Korea back in its place.
The report went on to speculate that the Pentagon, led by Mattis, and the National Security Council in the White House have been at odds in recent months over cultivating a strategy to handle dictator Kim Jong Un.
“The White House has grown frustrated in recent weeks by what it considers the Pentagon’s reluctance to provide President Trump with options for a military strike against North Korea,” the article stated.
The report claimed National Security Advisor Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster is pushing for “well-developed” military plans, but Mattis worries Trump is “moving too hastily toward military action,” so the Pentagon has been giving nonmilitary options.
When asked about the Times report, Mattis didn’t hold back.
“I got a kick out of it, frankly,” Mattis told reporters Friday at the Pentagon, according to the veterans-oriented website Task and Purpose. “It is what it is, but I could not find any relation to what’s actually going on.”
The Times report also claimed that during a July 2017 conference call, both Mattis and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson made disparaging remarks about McMaster when he left the room.
Mattis called the claim laughable.
“I thought it was especially humorous that (the story claimced) we didn’t realize we were still in the teleconference – that one of the people on the screen was talking with us at the same time,” Mattis said. “I guess we were talking to ourselves and imagining the person on the screen.”
This is why so many love Mattis.
When asked Friday about Mattis literally laughing off the report, according to Task and Purpose, a Times spokesman maintained the article is correct.
“We stand by our story,” said Ari Isaacman Bevacqua.
Many will agree with two things:
First, The Times certainly isn’t above printing stories to create the illusion of turmoil and frustration in President Donald Trump’s cabinet.
Second, we can also be quite sure “Mad Dog” has more than enough strategies to deal with North Korea and the threat it poses.
