Former President Barack Obama repeatedly told Americans they were safe from terror while he was in the White House, but according to data compiled by The Heritage Foundation, he was wrong.
The organization created a timeline of terror attacks that have occurred in the U.S. since 2001, and it’s terrifying to see how terror attacks increased on Obama’s watch.
According to the data, attacks began trending upward in 2009. They decreased in 2013 and 2014 but escalated again in 2015 and 2016.
One thing is clear. We were never safe.
As late as December 2015, Obama was still trying to convince Americans that they were safe — just a few weeks after terrorists attacked a public building in San Bernardino. In June of 2016, Obama dismissed fears of terrorism by telling Americans that terrorists weren’t “coming here to chop our heads off.”
But those were empty words, and Americans knew it.
We knew that Obama never took Islamic terrorists seriously. He referred to them as a “JV team,” and even as attacks increased in the U.S. and abroad, he always seemed more interested about his environmental agenda than about protecting the citizens of this country.
President Donald Trump called Obama ineffective, and this timeline tells us just how right the president was.
It also tells us that we simply cannot be weak. Weakness encourages aggression. However, one thing that deters aggression is strength, and Trump has vowed to make America safe again.
Hopefully the country is headed back toward a path of strength under Trump. If his first week in office is any indication of what’s in store, Trump will actually work to deter radical Islam rather than doing nothing about it.
If he can take to the fight to the terrorists and keep them busy in their own countries, perhaps fewer of them will bring terror here.
