Liberals Wail As Oprah Gives The 1 Reason Why Her Presidential Run Won't Happen
Following the Golden Globes awards show in early January, liberals seized on a potential “fresh face” who could challenge President Donald Trump in the 2020 election — TV talk show host and entertainment mogul Oprah Winfrey.
But according to TheBlaze, Democrats may have prematurely hyped a potential Winfrey/Trump matchup, as Winfrey stated quite unequivocally in a newly released interview that occurred prior to the awards show that she has no desire to run for the presidency, and asserted that she didn’t “have the DNA for it.”
After Winfrey’s impassioned speech in regard to the #MeToo movement about sexual assault and harassment — which was odd given her close relationship with disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein — liberals clamored for her to enter the race against Trump, and even sent #Oprah2020 to the top of the trending charts.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Winfrey’s longtime partner Stedman Graham joined in on the hype and said of a potential run, “It’s up to the people. She would absolutely do it.”
CNN reported that two anonymous “close friends” of Winfrey stated that she had been “actively considering” a run for the presidency for several months, at the private urging of her friends.
Rasmussen even conducted a poll on the potential presidential matchup of Winfrey vs. Trump and found that Oprah would likely prevail over the sitting president, 48-38 percent, though 14 percent of respondents were undecided and could go either way. Another poll placed the possible race much closer, within the margin of error.
But all of that liberal hype about an Oprah presidency may have been for naught, given what she herself said about the idea in an interview with InStyle magazine she conducted three weeks before her vaunted speech at the awards show.
Winfrey was asked, “How do you feel when people say, ‘Oprah 2020’?”
With a laugh, she replied, “I actually saw a mug the other day … I thought it was a cute mug. All you need is a mug and some campaign literature and a T-shirt.”
“I’ve always felt very secure and confident with myself in knowing what I could do and what I could not,” she continued. “And so it’s not something that interests me. I don’t have the DNA for it.”
“Gayle (King) — who knows me as well as I know myself practically — has been calling me regularly and texting me things, like a woman in the airport saying, ‘When’s Oprah going to run?'” stated Winfrey. “So Gayle sends me these things, and then she’ll go, ‘I know, I know, I know! It wouldn’t be good for you — it would be good for everyone else.’”
“I met with someone the other day who said that they would help me with a campaign,” she added. “That’s not for me.”
Winfrey made it quite clear that she simply doesn’t have any interest in running for the presidency, much less governing the country, an admission that is certain to be quite blow to the fever dreams of liberals anxiously awaiting an Oprah 2020 campaign.
Nevertheless, there will likely still be talk among liberal circles about a possible run by Winfrey, as this suggestion is nothing new, and has been shot down by Winfrey multiple times in the past.
Regardless, if she ultimately changed her mind and decided to make a run at the presidency, she would have her work cut out for her, as it will be difficult for any Democrat to run against a booming economy spurred along by regulatory and tax policies that are the exact opposite of what Democrats do when they are in charge.
