Day After Poll Shows Trump at All-Time High, Media Swears He's at All-Time Low

President Donald Trump and his supporters often decry the way the mainstream media uses poll data to manipulate and shape news coverage of Trump’s presidency and administration.

A story from The Hill on Thursday is a prime example. The article declared “Trump Approval Drops to Record Low.”

That article cited a recent Morning Consult poll that placed Trump’s approval rating for the month of March at 41 percent, with 54 percent disapproving of his job performance.

Their “record low” claim came just one day after Trump tweeted a link to an article that showed a poll which had Trump at an all-timeF high approval rating — 51 percent.

That poll was from Rasmussen‘s Daily Presidential Tracking poll, which fluctuates on a day-by-day basis and is generally regarded as one of the more accurate polls — though liberals often dismiss it as too “right-leaning.”

Trump has since dropped a bit in the Rasmussen poll to 47 percent by Thursday and Friday, but had hit 50 percent on Monday and peaked at 51 percent on Wednesday.

Notably, that placed Trump’s approval rating higher than former President Barack Obama at the same point in his presidency, a fact that undoubtedly caused some consternation among Trump’s legion of detractors in the liberal media.

As for the Morning Consult poll, they claimed that Trump’s “record low” approval of 41 percent was lower than the previous low of 42 percent they reported in October and November of 2017.

Do you think Donald Trump still has strong support?

Furthermore, they reported that Trump’s popularity has declined in some of the red states he won in the 2016 election and insinuated the dip in numbers was due to “a loss of enthusiasm among the president’s independent and Republican supporters.”

Meanwhile, the Real Clear Politics average of major presidential approval polls — which also changes on a daily basis and notably doesn’t include the Morning Consult — had Trump pegged at 41.5 percent approval and 54.6 disapproval as of Friday.

A look back at how that average has tracked over the past year shows that Trump is far from being at a “record low” in his approval rating. Instead, his lowest point in the RCP average came on Dec. 13, 2017 when he tallied only 37 percent approval.

In fact, outside of the first few months of his presidency when the RCP average stayed within the mid-to low-40s percentage wise, Trump’s average approval over the past couple of months has remained much higher than it was from May 2017 to late January 2018.

While the timing of The Hill’s story claiming Trump had hit a “record low” in his approval could have been entirely coincidental, that excuse won’t fly too well with most Trump supporters who have become wary of the polls pushed by the mainstream media. After all, almost every poll in the country predicted Hillary Clinton would win in 2016.

The truth is, Trump is doing better in most polls across the board than in previous months despite the dire predictions put forth by the anti-Trump media.

Now, with taxpayers feeling the benefit of the tax cuts, the near-defeat of the Islamic State group, the prospect of peace with North Korea, deregulation which has the economy and small businesses soaring, and evidence of a concerted effort to secure the southern border, it has become obvious to Trump’s supporters — and even some fence-sitters — that America is indeed “winning” and becoming great again, as promised and in spite of the constant negative media coverage.
