Conservative radio host Charlie Sykes has announced that he will retire at the end of this year.
The Wisconsin native has been against GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump from the primary season even into the general election campaign, going so far as to label himself a “#NeverTrump guy.”
Now, at age 61, he planned on leaving his radio show on WTMJ at year’s end.

“It has been both a pleasure and honor to work here,” said Sykes on his show. “It has been an extraordinary privilege to be a part of the momentous changes that have taken place in Wisconsin over the last two decades.”
Although many might postulate that Sykes is retiring because he is distinctly anti-Trump, Sykes insisted that this was not the case.
“My father died when he was 63, and I will turn 62 this year, so this year has always been circled on my calendar. Frankly, if I was ever going to make a move, it was now,” said Sykes.

In spite of Sykes’ insistence, it was not difficult to hypothesize that he was retiring because of his opposition to the Republican presidential nominee.
Sykes and Trump have actually spoken before, in April, when Sykes attacked Trump pretty harshly.
The interview came shortly after Trump re-tweeted a tweet concerning Sen. Ted Cruz’s wife that many found offensive.
“Before you called into my show, did you know that I’m a #NeverTrump guy?” asked Sykes.

“That I didn’t know,” replied Trump.
“We’re not on a playground,” continued Sykes, who had earlier compared Trump’s actions to those of a 12-year-old bully. “We’re running for president of the United States.”
Regardless of his opinion concerning Trump, he will continue to host until this election is complete.
He closed his retirement announcement by saying, “While I am stepping back from my daily radio duties I intend to remain an active voice. I want to write more, travel more and pursue new opportunities.”

Hopefully, he won’t sway too many conservative minds to #NeverTrump along the way.
