Another brutal attack by refugees in Europe, and again in the country that was hardest hit — Germany. This time, it occurred at a train station in a small town — and led to a sickening “crack” when one of the two women beaten sustained a broken cheekbone.
The incident occurred in Schwetzingen, about six miles south of Heidelberg, on Jan. 6. According to Die Welt (via WZ), one of the woman tried to resist the attack. That’s when she was kicked in the cheekbone by the refugee.
The details of the attack were announced by a prosecutor in Manheim on Wednesday. The attacker was charged on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.
Details are scant, aside from the fact that he was a refugee. He had only been in the country for a few months and lived in a refugee camp in Schwetzingen.
The incident was the latest in a series of attacks by Middle Eastern and North African refugees that has hit Germany since the beginning of the migrant crisis.
The most well-publicized was a series of sexual assaults and other criminal activity allegedly perpetrated by suspects of Middle Eastern or North African descent on New Year’s Eve, most notably in the city of Cologne.
Over 550 incidents have been reported, with 45 percent of them involving accusations of sexual assault.
A 20-year-old asylum seeker from Morocco was arrested for one of the attacks, in which he allegedly knocked a woman unconscious and raped her in a cemetery in Gelsenkirchen.
“Violence against women is always despicable and criminal, and it is a great shame that this has been shown to be a case where the alleged attacker is from the ranks of the asylum seekers, who only a short time before were welcomed into our community here in Gelsenkirchen. This is not only a gross disregard for hospitality but also inhumane,” said Gelsenkirchen Mayor Frank Baranowski.
