Ronald Reagan’s Son Issues Dire Border Wall Warning to Trump - 'My Father Is Still Waiting'

Share

The son of late President Ronald Reagan just added his voice to the border debate — and invoked his famous father to send a message to Donald Trump.

In a post this week on Twitter, Michael Reagan told the president that it’s “now or never” to get the southern border wall built, while reminding him of Democrat broken promises on immigration reform.

“Hey @POTUS in 1986 my father made a deal with the Democrats Amnesty for Border Security my father is still waiting,” the writer and radio host said. “U have no choice its now or never..#BuildTheWallNow.”

That 1986 reference referred to a deal Ronald Reagan made with liberals during his second term.

“The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 allowed any illegal immigrants who had been in the U.S. since 1982 to receive temporary legal status and eventually become eligible for green cards if they learned English,” explained The Washington Examiner.

“The legislation also attempted to boost border security by increasing funding for the Immigration and Naturalization Service and the U.S. Border Patrol, although it did not call for a border wall. The measure also sought to crack down on illegal immigration by barring employers from knowingly hiring illegal immigrants,” that outlet continued.

32 years later, we all know what happened. Immigration — both legal and illegal — skyrocketed. Effective border security? Not so much.

Do you think Michael Reagan's warning is a good one?

“From 1990 to 2007, the unauthorized (illegal) immigrant population tripled in size – from 3.5 million to a record high of 12.2 million,” the Pew Research Center reported in November.

Michael Reagan, the eldest son of the 40th president, made it clear that he sees Trump as the last option to actually secure the border and build an effective wall.

“President Trump, who’s in the White House because of the slogan ‘Build the wall,’ has already said he’d never sign another continuing resolution to fund the government if it didn’t contain money for a strong border wall,” Reagan wrote in a recent Op-Ed piece. “Now’s his time to put up or shut up.”

The conservative-leaning pundit had harsh words for Democrats, but even stronger words for establishment Republicans.

“If a fourth of the gigantic federal government is shut down temporarily by Trump by midnight Friday, it won’t be his fault,” Reagan wrote. “It won’t be the Democrats’ fault, either. It’ll be the Republican’s fault – especially party leaders like House Speaker Paul Ryan.”

“Speaker Ryan and the House Republicans never found the courage to pass a bill to fund the wall,” the late president’s son continued. “They repeatedly showed they had no balls.”

Reagan may be right. Trump staked his entire political fortune on promises to fix immigration and take a hard-line approach to the border. If he and Republicans are unable to do that even while controlling the White House and all of Congress, why should they ask to be re-elected?

One look at places like California makes it painfully clear that liberals have no desire to enforce immigration laws in any meaningful way. Without borders and laws, there is no nation.

Every conservative — and anyone else who values the rule of law — should watch carefully for what their elected officials do in the next few days. Donald Trump’s political career is certainly on the line, but so is the future direction of the United States.
