Rosenstein Wetting Pants as Gowdy Says 'Full Arsenal of Weapons' Will Target Him, Wray, DOJ

Share

I hope Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has a strong bladder, because “The Bulldog” is apparently coming after him.

The Department of Justice, readers may remember, has been stalling on turning over documents pertinent to the Hillary Clinton investigation requested by congressional subpoena.

In an appearance on “Fox News Sunday,” Gowdy said he was ready to take congressional action if the DOJ didn’t turn over the documents as it was supposed to by this week, according to The Hill.

“We either have compliance, we have partial compliance or we have noncompliance,” Gowdy said, describing a meeting Friday night between Justice Department officials and congressional leaders led by House Speaker Paul Ryan.

“And Paul made it very clear; there’s going to be action on the floor of the House this week if the FBI and DOJ do not comply with our subpoena request.”

Gowdy then took aim directly at Rosenstein and FBI Director Christopher Wray.

“So Rod Rosenstein, Chris Wray, you were in the meeting, you understood him just as clearly as I did. We’re going to get compliance or the House of Representatives is going to use its full arsenal of constitutional weapons to gain compliance,” Gowdy added.

It’s not like the Justice Department didn’t have enough time. After all, the House Judiciary Committee subpoenaed the documents back in March, when it requested both the DOJ and FBI turn over material related to surveillance abuse, the Clinton investigation and former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe’s firing.

Neither department has complied — and that has Congress burning the midnight oil. Well, in a relative sense.

Do you think that Rod Rosenstein should be impeached?

“Under the heading of minor miracles, you had members of the House working on a Friday night,” Gowdy said. “You had (House Intelligence Committee Chairman) Devin Nunes, (House Judiciary Chairman) Bob Goodlatte, myself and everyone you can think of from the FBI and the DOJ, and we went item by item on both of those outstanding subpoenas.”

“There is no ambiguity, the speaker of the House was really clear: you’re going to comply or there’s going to be floor action, and I think they got the message,” he added.

As for Nunes, he says that impeachment might not be far off for Rosenstein should the DOJ fail to comply.

“We can’t force the resignation, but we can hold in contempt, we can pass resolutions, we can impeach,” Nunes said during a Sunday appearance on Fox News, The Daily Caller reports.

“I think we’re getting close to there.”

The dual specters of impeachment and congressional action can’t be a good thing for Rosenstein, but he’s already received subpoenas and thought they could be ignored. Will he make the same mistake again?

If not, he could need a pack or two of Depends. We’ll find out for sure this week.
