Rosie O'Donnell Turns MSNBC Interview Into Utter Trainwreck

Share

The Trump years haven’t been particularly kind to one Roseanne O’Donnell. The former co-host of “The View” and longtime verbal sparring partner of our 45th president has stepped on more than a few sociopolitical landmines, be it alleged campaign finance violations or inappropriate tweets involving Barron Trump.

You would think that this would make Ms. O’Donnell slightly wary about wading into the Trumpian waters of our political discourse again, but this is not a soul of circumspection we’re talking about, which means that of course she went on MSNBC and turned a softball interview into an absolute shambles.

In the Monday interview on “The Beat,” O’Donnell said that Trump wasn’t “a legitimate president” and that Russia “actually gave him the election,” called him “a horrible, horrible human with no soul” and, in a Olympian feat of projection, said that he had “a very serious mental disorder” and was not “mentally stable enough to run this country.”

“When I watched the Helsinki summit and I, too, watched our president abandon our nation and be totally the betrayer that he is, I was horrified,” O’Donnell told host Ari Melber, according to Breitbart.

“He should not be president. I don’t believe he’s a legitimate president. I believe if it weren’t for Russia, he never would have won. And the reason he’s not so panicked about Russia, he knows they will try again to do exactly what they did in 2016. Although the mainstream media won’t say it yet, they actually gave him the election. I believe that firmly, and I think a lot of people do.

“I think the mainstream media is slowly coming around to where the people actually are,” she continued. “It took you a long time to call him a liar, and the man has been lying a long time since in office.”

Sorry to interject here, but what? MSNBC has been calling Donald Trump a liar literally since the day he first ran for president. You could pretty much name the network’s news block “President Trump is a Lyingly Lying Liar and Hillary Clinton Never Told a Single Fib, or At Least One of Any Consequence, and If You Disagree You’re a Filthy Misogynist.” (That might, in fairness, be a bit difficult to market and/or fit into the little time slot box on your cable’s electronic program guide.)

If Rosie had said just that little nugget about lying, this would already be one of the most mind-boggling interviews of this or any week. For better or worse, O’Donnell continued to supply an embarrassment of riches.

“I think Helsinki was the last straw for a lot of people. It’s like, forget it,” she continued. “You can’t get more blatant than he did right there, swore his allegiance to Russia. I believe he should be impeached. I’m sickened by Congress, that doesn’t call for impeachment when we have horrible evidence of his high crimes and misdemeanors.”

I must note that Rosie is far from the only person who apparently wasn’t watching the same news conference I was, but even at that, few reasonable sources claimed that it constituted “high crimes and misdemeanors.” Well, except for the Obama CIA Director John Brennan, who called it treasonous. Then again, I suppose I said “reasonable.”

As for Trump’s Twitter criticism of her, O’Donnell took a typically measured approach: “He’s a horrible, horrible human with no soul. He has a very serious mental disorder,” she said.

Do you think that Rosie O'Donnell has come unglued?

”This guy is by no means mentally stable enough to run this country, and he should be impeached, and every congressman who hasn’t filed those articles should lose their jobs.”

Righty-o.

There’s not really much I can say to that, except to advise that maybe O’Donnell should take some time to step back from the public political sphere and reevaluate whether she’s suffering from an acute case of Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Will she do that? Of course not. After her interview on MSNBC, O’Donnell decided instead to join a group of Broadway stars singing show tunes to liberal protesters outside the White House.

“Let the president know in no uncertain terms that we are alive, awake and we are woke,” O’Donnell told the crowd, according to The Hill.

I really wish I were making all of this up. I really do.
