BREAKING: Ryan Makes Bombshell Announcement About Trump, “I Won’t…”

Following the leak to the media of a tape depicting Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump speaking rather crassly about the women who offer themselves up to rich and influential celebrities, many GOP lawmakers ran as far and as fast as they could away from Trump.

One of those who denounced his party’s nominee and seemingly withdrew his already tepid support for the nominee was Speaker of the House Paul Ryan.

Ryan, who has been highly critical of Trump in the past, abruptly canceled a joint appearance with Trump in Wisconsin over the weekend, and has now seemed to imply that he wants nothing to do with him for the remainder of the election season.

According to Politico, Ryan spoke to fellow Republican lawmakers in a conference call Monday morning and informed them that he “won’t defend Trump” going forward, and would focus all of his attention on maintaining the GOP majority in the House of Representatives.

Ryan also made clear that he has no intentions of campaigning with or on behalf of Trump, and it is unlikely that the pair will be making any joint appearances anywhere.

This position was seemingly supported by House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, a California Republican.

McCarthy implored his fellow GOPers to “take a deep breath” and focus solely on winning their own races, essentially leaving Trump to fend for himself without the support of the party establishment.

It remains to be seen how the Republican base will react to the decided abandonment of their party’s nominee by the establishment leadership merely a month before the election.
