Sick Anti-Trump Bigwig Pushes Attack on Lindsey Graham. Cites Gay, Kink Accusations

Share

Jon Cooper is an openly gay man. He’s also the head of The Democratic Coalition, a rather large anti-Trump super PAC.

He also believes that it’s perfectly all right to accuse a man of not only being gay but of being blackmailed by the Kremlin because he allegedly has a strange sexual fetish.

In short, his ability to handle cognitive dissonance is absolutely stunning.

So, apparently, Cooper isn’t terribly impressed with Lindsey Graham 2.0. But not only is he not impressed, he also doesn’t think that the South Carolina senator’s recent fiery turn to supporting President Donald Trump in high-profile issues is based on personal conviction or anything of that matter. Instead, Cooper claims that the Russians have something on Graham.

And, according to “(a) Republican,” that kompromat involves some sort of kink:

“A Republican just told me that he doubts @LindseyGrahamSC is kowtowing to Trump (and indirectly Putin) because he’s being blackmailed over his sexual orientation (an open secret) or even financial corruption,” Cooper tweeted Sunday.

“Rather, he thinks it probably involves some pretty serious sexual kink.”

But Cooper says that he’s not being judgmental or anything, he swears! After all, he’s a gay man!

This, uh, makes it better how?

First, this very dubious information comes from “(a) Republican.” Any Republican? A representative? A lobbyist? A minor party apparatchik? Dave down the street?

I don’t want to speculate, but there aren’t a whole lot of high-level Republicans who are going to drop this information in the lap of a left-wing social media gadfly — particularly one who later tweeted that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell “allows Trump to get away with his treasonous behavior.”

Do you think that Cooper should apologize for these tweets?

Cooper statement that this so-called Republican “thinks it probably involves some pretty serious sexual kink” shows how meaningless his case is. In other words, there’s no evidence here; it’s merely speculation, not a “strong likelihoood.” No evidence for how Graham’s positions benefit the Russians is provided, or apparently necessary.

But what’s more important, this is one gay man smearing another man with allegations that he’s gay, that he’s into secret sexual fetishes and that the Russians are controlling him because of it.

If any straight conservative did this with a liberal, they’d be called a homophobe. If any gay Republican did it, they’d be called a self-hating homophobe.

It’s all right because it’s on the left, though, rightm Mr. Cooper? What a sick way to view politics — and yourself, for that matter.

While his name might not be familiar to many readers, The Democratic Coalition, the organization Cooper leads bills itself as a leader of the anti-Trump #Resistance movement, with a presence in all 50 states and has gotten attention from liberal outlets like MSNBC. The nonprofit group Ballotpedia identified it in 2016 as one of its “top influencers by state.” (Not influential enough to stop Donald Trump from beating Hililary Clinton, though.)

Cooper’s remarks haven’t gotten much traction in the news one way or the other. They have gotten some sparse condemnation on Twitter — even from Glenn Greenwald, co-founder of The Intercept, a man usually further to the left than Cooper:

Most of the other reports of his remarks came from conservative news outlets. There was one other publication willing to publish a report on the tweet, however: Sputnik News, one of the Russian government’s propaganda arms, which used the tweet to publish more homophobic claims against Graham under the cover of “news.”

In other words, the only tool of Russia here seems to be Jon Cooper. Good work.
