Surveillance Camera Catches Man's 'Outstanding' Actions After Wind Rips American Flag Off Pole

Share

Much to my dismay, many news stories in recent years have had decidedly anti-American undertones.

Whether it’s NFL players kneeling for the national anthem while equating police officers to slave wranglers or ignorant celebrities accusing American border patrol agents of engaging in “terrorism,” it doesn’t take much effort to find stories of Americans vilifying this great country.

It’s truly disheartening to see just how much the country has changed for the worse since presenting a unified front post-9/11.

But every once in a while, it’s nice to be reminded that patriotic Americans do still exist.

For example, take this video making the rounds on social media.

Considering it’s sitting at only around 28,000 views as of this writing, it needs much more recognition.

Facebook user Erin Fezell posted it Monday, lauding the unidentified individual in the video. She was eventually able to identify the good Samaritan as her neighbor’s nephew.

“Guys, this just happened. I’m in awe of this gentleman. Apparently the winds were so terrible that it took our flag off the pole,” Fezell wrote in her post accompanying the video.

According to WZTV-TV, this awesome act of patriotism took place in Galatin, Tennessee.

“Talk about admirable. I’m not sure who this is, but I truly thank you. You’re a remarkable human and I am honored that you know flag etiquette (better than I do). He folded it correctly then placed it on a chair as to not allow it to lay on the ground,” Fezell added on Facebook. “I’m so honored. It’s not often that the current generation gets recognized for doing something so patriotic. I appreciate and applaud you, sir!”

“Cheers to you, sir!” Fezell said to conclude her post, before updating it with the revelation that the young man was her neighbor’s nephew.

Speaking to WZTV, Fezell continued to heap praise on the young man.

“To come back to our roots and to see the importance of what that symbol means, it’s just truly a touching moment,” Fezell told WZTV. “I just simply applaud him for this small action as it spoke volumes as to the character he has within.”

“I’m truly humbled by this experience, seeing someone care so much about something as small as a flag,” she added.

I just want to take a moment to commend both Fezell and the young man.

His actions are commendable in the most obvious sense. There was no reason for him to do what he did. Nobody would’ve noticed or been particularly upset had he just gone about his business without picking up the flag that had been ripped down by winds.

But this young patriot went above and beyond to help preserve a flag and symbol that so many Americans cherish. Good for him.

Fezell also deserves a ton of credit. She absolutely did not need to publicize his good deed or call attention to it.

Instead, she took to social media to both help identify and applaud the young man. She went above and beyond to recognize a dutiful patriot, and that’s simply awesome.

In a country that seems deeply divided and constantly bickering over one ideological issue or another, this is truly a breath of fresh air.
