Tenn. Senate Approves New Monument that Will Have Leftists Foaming at the Mouth

Share

Tennessee legislators have come up with a monument that is going to have liberals foaming at the mouth — and surprisingly, it has nothing to do with the Confederacy.

According to WREG-TV, the Tennessee Senate passed a bill which would create a monument to aborted unborn children on state Capitol grounds.

The Monday vote wasn’t even close, with 23 voting for and three voting against the measure.

The House has already passed the bill, but the Senate version has to be sent back for a second vote for an amendment in order for it to be sent to Republican Gov. Bill Haslam.

The monument, titled “Tennessee Monument to Unborn Children, In Memory of the Victims of Abortion: Babies, Women, and Men,” will be built with private funds.

However, the location — on the grounds of Tennessee’s Capitol — is going to have liberals fuming.

Volunteer State conservatives, meanwhile, saw it as a victory for defenseless unborn.

GOP Rep. Bill Dunn noted that the Capitol already has monuments to victims of slavery and the Holocaust, and likened abortion to the “brand of inhumanity” both of those evils represented.

“Both of these monuments that are already here recognize that atrocities occurred because human beings were treated as less than human,” Dunn told the Tennessee Star.

Do you think your state capitol building should have a memorial like this?

“In both cases, the vulnerable and defenseless were subjected to the will of the powerful.”

The most powerful voice in abortion rights, Planned Parenthood, was decidedly unhappy.

“At its core, the purpose of this monument is to further stigmatize abortion,” Tereva Parham, a spokeswoman for Planned Parenthood of Middle and East Tennessee, told the Charlotte Observer.

“Our initial reaction to this proposal is that it’s another form of political posturing to further create a hostile environment toward reproductive health.”

As for the first part, yes — it is to stigmatize abortion. The killing of innocent lives ought to be stigmatized. What should be especially stigmatized is organizations who proudly promote it as if it were a lifestyle choice as opposed to a the killing of a human life.

As for political posturing, again, this is simply bringing to light the evils that abortion has done. It’s not just the unborn who didn’t get to live. There’s also the mental and physical toll on the mother who undergoes an abortion, which Planned Parenthood has ghoulishly euphemized as “reproductive health.”

This is the first such monument which will go up at a state capitol building. We hope it won’t be the last.
