While on a Phoenix, Arizona, light rail car four years ago, a man since dubbed the “Light Rail Avenger” saw two thugs begin pounding another man.
Without a moment to lose, the modern samurai then pulled out his katana and quickly positioned himself between the thugs and their victim.
Rather than execute any potentially deadly martial-arts moves, however, the man simply stood in the thugs’ way like an unbreakable statue, thus putting an abrupt end to their shenanigans, according to the New York Daily News.

Though our modern samurai seemed a bit odd, the people on the rail car with him that eventful day very much appreciated his presence. Knives in the hands of a bad guy are bad, a knife in the hands of a good guy can be invaluable.
“There’s no accidents, and he was totally there for a reason,” one of them remarked. “And I feel like, hey, you know, dude, wherever you are, rock on!”
Rock on, indeed. People should be judged by how they treat others, not by whether or not they happen to be a bit strange. And the way this guy put himself on the line to protect a fellow man suggests that he is without a doubt a good man … as well as a hero.
