Thugs Get Nasty Treatment When They Try Stealing the Wrong Man's Trailer
We have a lot to be thankful for in this country, and for one man, he’s extremely thankful for the Second Amendment. For him, it’s more than just a abstract idea — it’s what enabled him to save his livelihood.
The incident took place around midnight right outside the home of Ashton Gallagher near Maysville, Alabama.
Gallagher was eating a snack when he heard a noise outside. When he looked at his surveillance camera, it wasn’t a pretty sight.
Two men were trying to steal his trailer full of all his landscaping equipment. The alleged thieves were Robert Dale Bradshaw, 42, and Derick Deangelo Vaughn, 31.
Gallagher is a landscaper, so losing the trailer would mean losing his way of making a living. “That’s pretty much how I make my money. I do landscaping. So that’s part of my living. If that’s gone then I have to go through everything else to get it back,” he told WAAY-TV.
As soon as he saw the two thieves, he knew exactly what he needed to do.
“I grabbed my gun and headed out here and was like, ‘Hey ya’ll need to drop my trailer.’ I said it more aggressively than that,” Gallagher explained.
In a desperate attempt to save the trailer, he opened fire toward the two suspects, hoping to hit the trailers tires. He succeeded.
Deputies were then called out to the scene when neighbors heard gunshots. “Vaughn ran when the shooting started, according to deputies. Bradshaw was able to drive away from the home but abandoned the vehicle at Maysville Road and Cooper Drive because a tire was shot, deputies said,” WAAY-TV reported.
Although Gallagher hit one of the tires, he hit one of the thugs as well. According to deputies, Vaughn was shot under his arm.
“It wasn’t intentional. I was aiming towards to vehicle. It’s 1:00 in the morning and I’m tired and next to being asleep,” Gallagher told WAAY-TV.
Vaughn was treated at the hospital and then booked into jail where he and Bradshaw both had bails set at $5,000.
So, what’s going to happen to Gallagher? Well, according Madison County Lt. Donny Shaw, Alabama Code Title 13-A justifies a shooting if a citizen feels like his life is in danger.
The district attorney will eventually look at the case and will present it in front of a grand jury. From there, they will decide whether or not any kind of charges will be brought against Gallagher.
“I’m aware of everything, but at the same point I don’t see how I’ll be in the wrong. Mainly because, I’m defending my family and my property. I don’t see myself being in the wrong at all,” Gallagher told WAAY-TV.
He’s absolutely right. He has a right to self-defense and to protect his private property. Good for him for sticking up for himself despite what these two thugs were trying to do.
