The 'Tolerant Left': Kimmel Says Christian Baker Has Gay Job and Looks Like a Woman

Share

A growing number of people on the political right as well as in the center have become fed-up with the constant display of hypocritical double standards on the left, how they seemingly get away with doing the very things they lambaste the right for supposedly doing.

Late-night “comedian” and talk show host Jimmy Kimmel is a primary offender of this blatant double standard, and he provided an excellent example of the left’s hypocrisy on his ABC program Thursday night, according to The Daily Caller.

At issue was Colorado baker Jack Phillips, the Christian owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop, who recently won a Supreme Court decision backing him on religious liberty grounds after he declined to bake a custom cake for a gay wedding.

Phillips is back in the news again after it was revealed that he is the target of yet another complaint filed with the Colorado Civil Rights Commission, this time for refusing to bake a custom cake for a transgender transition celebration.

“Remember that baker from Colorado who won the Supreme Court case after he refused to make a wedding cake for the same-sex couple? Well he’s back in court because of another cake he doesn’t want to bake,” Kimmel said in his opening monologue.

“Jack Phillips filed a lawsuit against the governor of Colorado, this time over a gender transition cake — it was blue on the outside and pink in the middle — and somebody wanted to have this cake,” Kimmel said. “The Colorado civil rights division says he has to bake it for them. And he doesn’t want to.

“Which is really funny, because this is a guy who spends all day, every day, meticulously designing flowers out of icing. His whole life is gay. I don’t know if he’s worried the wrong cake might bring that to life or what.

“And I will add, this is Jack Phillips, the totally straight cake baker,” he said, showing a photo of Phillips. “You would think that someone who looks like the Reba McEntire version of Colonel Sanders would be more sympathetic to gender identity issues.”

Ah, yes, nothing funnier than homophobic and sexist jokes … so long as the target of such jokes resides squarely on the right. Not so much when the target of such jokes is on the left.

Are you sick and tired of the hypocritical double standards exploited by the left?

And therein lies the heart of the hypocritical double standard enjoyed by those who are firmly ensconced among the progressive left. “Leftist privilege,” if you will.

It is perfectly acceptable — hilarious even — for liberal comedians to engage in all of the dreaded -isms and -phobias against the right, while the exact same jokes from a conservative comedian toward a figure on the left would spark outrage and boycotts and demands that they be fired.

But the blunt truth is, this sort of double standard is absolutely intolerable and unacceptable. If Kimmel is permitted to make homophobic and sexist jokes aimed a Christian conservative baker, then it must be equally permissible for conservatives to crack similar jokes about people on the left.

Conversely, if it remains unacceptable to make homophobic and sexist jokes for comedians on the right, then those sorts of jokes must never be accepted when uttered by comedians on the left.

The declaration by the left that there is no inherent humor to gender or sexual identity issues, and therefore such subjects must never be joked about, must be applied across the board or rendered inapplicable in all circumstances, but it can no longer be a one-sided affair.

These are the “new rules” that the left has created for our society, but they sure don’t like having those rules applied to members of their own squad. If they truly are interested in fairness and equity, they better get used to them.

“Rules for thee but not for me” simply isn’t going to fly anymore, and we will no longer stand idly by while the left excoriates the right for various -isms and -phobias while allowing their own on the left to mockingly make use of those same -isms and -phobias without being called out and held accountable.
