Europe is experiencing a dangerous refugee crisis and the latest out of the United Kingdom shows just what they are facing in a striking example of why we can’t allow it to happen here in the United States.
The BBC reported that migrants and armed human smugglers are trying to get from the French port city of Calais — which has gone from a bustling tourist down to a dangerous refugee haven colloquially termed “the Jungle” — to England by attempting to hijack trucks.
Special correspondent for BBC South East, Colin Campbell and his producer caught a glimpse of the crisis first hand on Wednesday. The two were driving down the main road into Calais around 4 a.m. when they were stopped by a tree that the human smugglers dragged out there as a roadblock.

These human smugglers, whom the BBC crew described as being “ruthless and territorial,” direct groups of migrants to attack trucks in an attempt to hijack them to gain passage into England.
The BBC crew witnessed about 20 migrants sent to attack a truck behind the car the crew was in when another truck pulled up, forced to make an abrupt stop due to the smugglers’ roadblock. The mob spotted another migrant and set their attack on him — apparently those migrants who don’t pay the smugglers are frequently targeted for violence.
According to the BBC, it is unclear whetherthe migrants successfully made their way on to the trucks.
Take a look at this video of another similar incident:
This wasn’t the only attack of the night in the area, and due to the dangerous attacks, the hours between midnight and 6 a.m. are considered a “no-go zone.”
Calais features barbed-wire fencing and increased security, which is causing migrants, around 9,000 are living in the “Jungle,” to find other ways to make their way into England. Often, they pay smugglers to get them in.
Calais police union representative Gilles Debove told the BBC: “Effectively the violence is getting worse: migrants are trying to get out any way they can because you don’t want to spend the winter here in Calais.”
The area is struggling to muster up the resources to deal with the situation. Vincent Berton, the deputy prefect of Pas-de-Calais, the regional government that includes the city, told the BBC: “We’re trying to deal as effectively as we can with the situation in Calais. Our resources are stretched, but we’re going to have reinforcements to improve this situation.”
This is precisely why we can’t allow this to happen in America. We have real-world, real-time, examples of what happens when you allow your country to be overrun with migrants — it would be insane not to take notice and act accordingly.
