Trump Continues Traumatizing Libs, Revokes Obama's BP Oil Spill Response

Share

President Donald Trump took office on a promise of placing the interests of “America First” and a vow to “Make America Great Again,” a big part of which is undoing former President Barack Obama’s legacy piece by piece.

Trump has most certainly been doing that in a variety of different aspects, and he just did so again with regard to Obama’s response to the 2010 BP Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion and subsequent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

According to the Washington Examiner, Trump signed an executive order on Tuesday which explicitly revoked and undid what had been put in place by an Obama executive order issued in the aftermath of the spill which placed much of the Gulf off limits to oil exploration and drilling.

Trump’s executive order, titled “Ocean Policy to Advance the Economic, Security, and Environmental Interests of the United States,” appeared aimed at promoting economic development of domestic energy production of the abundant natural resources found in the Gulf.

The order noted how important and “foundational” the oceans, coasts and lakes of America are to the “economy, security, global competitiveness, and well-being of the United States.”

“Ocean industries employ millions of Americans and support a strong national economy. Domestic energy production from Federal waters strengthens the Nation’s security and reduces reliance on imported energy,” the order noted.

“Our Armed Forces protect our national interests in the ocean and along the Nation’s coasts. Goods and materials that support our economy and quality of life flow through maritime commerce. Our fisheries resources help feed the Nation and present tremendous export opportunities. Clean, healthy waters support fishing, boating, and other recreational opportunities for all Americans,” it continued.

Bearing all of that in mind along with a need to protect those assets and benefits, the order called for more public access to “marine data and information,” more efficient interagency coordination on ocean-related matters and more engagement between federal agencies and “marine industries, the science and technology community, and other ocean stakeholders” by way of “regional ocean partnerships.”

A significant part of the policy that will stem from this order is to “facilitate the economic growth of coastal communities and promote ocean industries, which employ millions of Americans, advance ocean science and technology, feed the American people, transport American goods, expand recreational opportunities, and enhance America’s energy security.”

Do you support Trump's policy to reopen areas of the Gulf for oil drilling?

At the same time, the order will “ensure that Federal regulations and management decisions do not prevent productive and sustainable use” of the aforementioned assets and benefits.

That is a big change from Obama’s order 13547, “Stewardship of the Ocean, Our Coasts, and the Great Lakes,” which did the opposite and promulgated regulations and decisions specifically intended to prevent the productive and sustainable use of such, and was summarily revoked by Trump’s order.

To implement the new policy directives as laid out in the new order, Trump established what will be known as the interagency Ocean Policy Committee, which will be co-chaired by the chairman of the Council on Environmental Quality and the director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy.

The committee will be composed of several top cabinet officials, a number of high-level assistants and other designated appointees, who will advise the president and appropriate agencies with recommendations on how best to address and fund various “ocean-related matters” in a productive and sustainable fashion.

The Examiner also noted that Trump proclaimed June to be National Ocean Month and announced he would soon take action to streamline the permitting process that will open up the “underutilized” U.S.-controlled Exclusive Economic Zones for the appropriate and necessary development and exploitation of abundant natural resources.

The radical environmentalist progressives, not to mention Obama acolytes watching in anguish as their dear leader’s legacy is torn asunder, will no doubt be up in arms over this executive order from Trump, but there is nothing they can do about it but wail and moan.

Of course, the media would have to stop freaking out over manufactured illegal immigration crises or the unraveling Russian collusion narrative long enough to report on this for anybody to really notice, so there may not be much uproar about it, yet. But they are bound to figure it out sooner or later when new oil rigs start popping up.
