Trump Attacks Socialist Dictator, Issues Epic 8 Word Warning

Americans have watched with growing concern and horror over the years as the policies of the authoritarian socialist government of Venezuela increasingly transforms the oil-rich nation into an impoverished dumpster fire.

But President Donald Trump and his administration have no intentions of standing idly by any longer while socialist dictator Nicholas Maduro continues to starve the Venezuelan people and violently cracks down on dissent against his authoritarian regime, and they just issued strong sanctions to make their point, according to Reuters.

In an executive order, Trump authorized economic sanctions that include a prohibition against acquiring any new debt from the Venezuelan government or its state-run oil company, a move intended to place a damper on the financing of the socialist regime.

We will not stand by as Venezuela crumbles,” declared a statement from Trump’s White House. “The president’s new action prohibits dealings in new debt and equity issued by the government of Venezuela and its state oil company.”

However, in order to “mitigate harm to the American and Venezuelan people,” exceptions were carved out of the sanctions for such things as oil exports and imports — particularly involving Citgo — in order to keep gas prices from spiking, already existing deals regarding Venezuelan debt and anything related to humanitarian efforts to relieve the suffering of the Venezuelan people.

“These measures are carefully calibrated to deny the Maduro dictatorship a critical source of financing to maintain its illegitimate rule, protect the United States financial system from complicity in Venezuela’s corruption and in the impoverishment of the Venezuelan people, and allow for humanitarian assistance,” the statement read.

According to the Washington Examiner, the sanctions were met with bipartisan support from members of Congress — a rare achievement for any Trump White House initiative.

“I commend the Trump administration for taking decisive and significant action to prevent the Maduro regime from using Wall Street to finance its repression and tyranny,” Republican Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida said in a statement. “The United States remains committed to supporting the cause of freedom and democracy in Venezuela.”

Democrat Rep. Eliot Engel of New York, the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, agreed.

“I strongly support U.S. efforts to hold Nicolás Maduro and his cronies accountable while ensuring that the Venezuelan people — who have already suffered for far too long — are not forced to bear any further pain,” he said in a statement. “As the sanctions are implemented, President Trump must ensure that they have the appropriate impact and adjust them as necessary.”

Meanwhile, as Venezuela starves and burns, its leaders now have the choice of making much-needed democratic reforms or of further isolating themselves by relying almost exclusively upon China and Russia to subsidize them going forward.

“The United States reiterates our call that Venezuela restore democracy, hold free and fair elections, release all political prisoners immediately and unconditionally, and end the repression of the Venezuelan people,” announced press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders. “We continue to stand with the people of Venezuela during these trying times.”

Hopefully, these sanctions will have the desired effect in causing the Venezuelan regime to ease its iron grip on the once-rich and incredibly beautiful South American nation.
