Trump's Now Writing His Own WaPo Headlines and It's Amazing to Watch

Share

If there is one mainstream media outlet that President Donald Trump despises as much as “The Failing New York Times,” it’s “The Fake News Washington Post,” and the feeling is obviously quite mutual.

The Post, or WaPo as it is colloquially known, has become a frequent target of Trump’s criticism due to their incessantly negative coverage of him, his presidential campaign and later, his administration.

Trump’s criticism of The Post amped-up in recent weeks as he set his sights on the allegedly unfair business practices by Amazon, which is owned by billionaire CEO Jeff Bezos, who also owns WaPo.

On Thursday, Trump took to Twitter to rewrite what he viewed as a negatively slanted and misleading WaPo headline.

Trump tweeted, “The Fake News Washington Post, Amazon’s ‘chief lobbyist,’ has another (of many) phony headlines, ‘Trump Defiant As China Adds Trade Penalties.’ WRONG! Should read, ‘Trump Defiant as U.S. Adds Trade Penalties, Will End Barriers And Massive I.P. Theft.’ Typically bad reporting!”

The WaPo article implied that the proposed tariffs on certain imports from China — which resulted in China proposing their own additional tariffs on some American goods in retaliation — had sparked a trade war between the two economic powerhouses.

But Trump and his economic advisers have attempted to reassure the American people there won’t be a trade war and insist that decades of unfair practices by China started this economic confrontation long ago.

Furthermore, they assert that Trump’s proposed tariffs against China were merely a long-overdue response to Chinese practices and were only a negotiating tool to achieve a more balanced trade deal once the dust settles.

Do you think President Trump is right to call out the liberal media for its bias?

The Columbia Journalism Review rushed to the defense of WaPo and Bezos after this latest “broadside” in Trump’s “war” on The Post. It painted Bezos as an entirely “hands-off” owner who has nothing to do with what the paper covers or writes about Trump.

Meanwhile, CJR also characterized WaPo’s editorial leadership as being “restrained” in their normal coverage of Trump as well as in their responses to his attacks.

Although the left abhor Trump’s use of Twitter — particularly when his tweets take aim at the liberal media — and even some on the right cringe when his fingers get to typing, many of Trump’s supporters absolutely love how he utilizes the social media platform.

That is primarily because Twitter provides an avenue for Trump to bypass the incessantly negative spin applied to his administration by the media and deliver his message straight to the American people with no filter.

Imagine if Trump didn’t make use of or have access to Twitter, and had to rely solely upon the biased media to deliver his messages to the citizenry. Does anyone honestly think those messages would get through unscathed?

The mainstream media has long delivered the news of the day through a one-sided filter, and just about every Republican politician in recent history has been hampered by this overt bias.

But candidate-turned-President Trump has found a way to get around the ankle-biters in the liberal media, much to the delight of his legion of supporters, many of whom joyously tell him, “Keep on tweeting, Mr. President!”
