A California TV reporter was almost killed while in the middle of a live shot when he was nearly struck by an out of control vehicle that careened toward him following an accident.
KTVU reporter Alex Savidge was reporting on a train derailment in Alameda County Tuesday morning when he and his cameraman had their brush with certain injury or death.
Standing in a 7-Eleven convenience store parking lot on the side of a busy road to deliver his report, Savidge’s photographer Chip Vaughan suddenly yelled “Get out of the way!” as the car headed toward them.
Luckily both men were able to jump out of the way just before the car crashed into a light stand next to the camera, where both men had been standing.
“It happened in a split second. I’m just thankful he jumped the right way.” said Vaughan. Both men were overheard off-camera saying they were OK in the immediate aftermath of the insane accident.
In a later live report, Savidge declared emotionally, “I am grateful to be OK, that’s all I can say.” The two men shared a moment together on air, hugging and thanking each other.
Savidge added a personal message for his significant other, saying, “I don’t know if my wife … she’s not watching. I haven’t been able to call her. I just want to tell my wife I’m OK.”

As for the woman driving the car that almost took out the reporter and his cameraman, the police took her license away while they investigate the accident.
It is believed that she accidentally hit the gas instead of the brakes following a collision with another vehicle in a nearby intersection.
