Tweet That Preceded Trump Declassification Order May Reveal POTUS' Plan

For a president whose political enemies claim won an election by “colluding” with a foreign power, President Donald Trump sure seems inclined to get to the truth of matter.

Late Monday, Trump ordered the declassification of key documents pertaining to the FBI investigation into possible Russian collusion during the 2016 election, according to Fox News.

Some of the documents include a renewed surveillance warrant looking into former campaign aide Carter Page and more text messages former FBI Agent Peter Strzok and former bureau attorney Lisa Page.

A White House statement said Trump’s orders to release the documents came “(at) the request of a number of committees of Congress, and for reasons of transparency.”

In an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Monday, Carter Page called the warrants a “mockery” of the Constitution.

“My biggest concern is all the damage that this did to the U.S. government (and) the mockery it made out of the Constitution and all of the wrongdoing that was done by various officials within the Department of Justice, the FBI and the DNC,” he said, referring to the Democratic National Committee.

The former campaign aide also mentioned how “so incredibly stupid” the entire investigation was in the first place.

One interesting tidbit, however, is that Trump may have shown his hand on a Twitter post Monday that was published before the declassification order.

“We need to open the case we’ve been waiting on now while Andy is acting,” Strzok messaged to Lisa Page, referring to former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe. Strzok and Lisa Page, as Trump often points out, were involved in an extramarital affair during their time together in the FBI.

“We need to lock in (redacted). In a formal chargeable way. Soon,” Lisa Page allegedly responded.

“Wow, a conspiracy caught?” Trump added on Twitter.

And that seems to be the key play for Trump here. Depending on what the declassification order might yield, the president may well be tugging on a string directly leading to what could be a damning federal conspiracy.

Obviously, that’s conjecture. But it’s still noteworthy that Trump is so openly musing about what could turn out to be deliberate plot at the highest levels of the FBI — and that Trump could be ultimately revealing it.

Strzok, of course, maintains he did nothing wrong. Testifying before in July, he said his actions were in the “highest standards of the FBI.”

The declassification order also includes FBI interviews with Justice Department official Bruce Ohr and all interviews pertaining to the Carter Page surveillance order. Text messages from key figures in the Russian investigation, including Strzok, Lisa Page, Ohr, McCabe and ex-FBI director James Comey, are also being ordered to be unveiled “without redaction.”

As of Tuesday morning, it is still unclear how and when the documents would be disseminated. Fox News reported a source claiming the Carter Page documents would likely be the first to get declassified.

If Trump’s game plan is, in fact, to expose a massive federal conspiracy, it would be monumental. And only in the worst ways for Trump’s most ardent detractors.
