The United States’ closest ally in the Middle East is about to get much stronger.
According to Defense News, the U.S. is opening a permanent military base in Israel that will be tasked with defending against rocket and missile attacks in the region.
In September, both U.S. and Israeli officers announced the construction of the American base which will operate as an independent facility, under the U.S. flag. It will be located at the Israel Defense Forces Air Defense School in southern Israel.

Israeli Air Force Brig. Gen. Zvika Haimovich, who serves as the IDF‘s air defense commander, said dozens of America soldiers will be permanently stationed in the region.
“A few dozens of soldiers of our American allies will be stationed here permanently. They are part of an American task force that will be stationed here,” Haimovich said.
The base will house U.S. operational systems capable of intercepting a variety of aerial threats, which is likely a response to the growing threat from Iran, Lebanon and Gaza.
“The purpose of their presence is not for training or for exercises, but rather as part of a joint Israeli and American effort to sustain and enhance our defensive capabilities,” Haimovich said.
Maj. Gen. John Gronski, deputy commanding general of the Army National Guard in U.S. Army Europe, said the U.S. base shows the strong bond between the U.S. and Israel, something that was basically non-existent during former President Barack Obama’s time in office.
“This life support area represents the first ever stationing of a U.S. Army unit on Israeli soil,” Gronski said.
“The U.S. and Israel have long planned together, exercised together, trained together. And now, with the opening of this site, these crucial interactions will occur every day. We’ll have Israeli airmen, US soldiers living and working side by side,” he added.
The U.S. base will assist with several aspects of helping to secure the region, which is constantly under threat from its Islamic neighbors.
While creating the base in Israel has been discussed for years, perhaps its not a coincidence that Trump — and not Obama — was the one to get this done.
The Trump administration has utterly destroyed the Islamic State terror group and has vowed to take action against North Korea should the rogue regime carry out any actions against the U.S. or its allies.
The new base in Israel reaffirms America’s commitment to regional security and ensures Israel that they can trust the U.S. again.
This move helps ensure that our allies feel safer, while simultaneously putting our enemies on notice.
