In support of Operation Tidal Wave II, an airstrike by the U.S.-led coalition against the Islamic State group destroyed nearly 300 tanker trucks in Syria on Sunday.
There are, of course, a number of problems with that statement. For example, the United States under President Barack Obama has been doing very little leading in this fight. And if there had been an “Operation Tidal Wave I,” shouldn’t that have taken care of it? How much of the group survived the first “tidal wave”?
But let’s not get caught up in details. In the spirit of Thanksgiving weekend, let’s all take a moment and be thankful that at least someone has done something against the radical Islamic barbarians, even if we had to be shamed into it by the deaths of 130 people in Paris.
The airstrike reportedly took place near Al Hassakah and Dayr Az Zawr in Syria as part of a new effort to disrupt the flow of the militants’ income from oil sales. Rare.com reported the number of destroyed trucks at 238 (twice), but the correct number appears to be 283:
The video was posted to YouTube by a user called OJTF OIR, which would appear to stand for Operation Joint Task Force — Operation Inherent Resolve, although it was unclear whether the video was an “official” posting by coalition forces.
Rare attributed the video to a Department of Defense release.
Part 2 of the video is here:
Both videos were posted to YouTube on Tuesday.
Rare also said the operation was conducted without civilian casualties after coalition forces dropped leaflets warning non-combatants to leave the area, a tactic often employed by the Israel Defense Forces. It added that over 100 other trucks were destroyed last week.
