Update: Here’s Why You Haven’t Seen Krauthammer in Weeks…

Conservative commentator and author Charles Krauthammer has been noticeably missing from his regular spot on Fox News’ Special Report, a situation the show’s anchor, Bret Baier, attributed to health issues.

During the Oct. 5 edition of the show, Baier explained that hundreds of viewers had reached out to the anchor regarding Krauthammer’s absence, according to TheBlaze.

“Charles had a pre-planned surgery his doctors said he needed,” Baier explained to the concerned viewers. “He expected a speedy recovery but ran into some complications post-surgery.”

“He is still in the hospital,” the anchor added, “making slow steady progress and recovery.”

The 67-year-old Pulitzer Prize-winning writer has been paralyzed since he was 22-years-old, according to Independent Journal Review. An afternoon swim with a friend while attending Harvard Medical School turned life-threatening when Krauthammer hit his head on the bottom of the pool, impacting his cervical vertebrae and severing his spinal cord.

Following the accident, Krauthammer spent 14 months in the hospital, but didn’t let that stop him from finishing his medical education and become a psychiatry researcher.

It was not known if his most recent surgery was related to that spinal injury.

Baier gave a similar update on Krauthammer via social media on Sept. 27, saying that he was passing along well-wishes from viewers to Krauthammer and his family.

In the most recent update, Baier noted that his colleague “desperately” wanted to retake his place on the show’s panel “as soon as possible,” based on his conversations with Krauthammer’s wife, Robby, with whom he emails with on a regular basis.

However, the Fox host explained that it would likely be a few more weeks before the commentator would be back on the show.

“I share your thoughts and prayers,” Baier added. “And thanks for asking about his status.”

We’re certainly praying for a speedy recovery, as well. Charles is a steady, common-sense representative of conservatism, and his voice is sorely missed.
