Waitress Stunned at What Cop Slips Into Her Hand After Brutal Restaurant Stabbing

A Taunton, Massachusetts, police officer surprised a worker at a local restaurant by slipping something very unexpected into her hand.

Kristen Sutherland was a bartender at Bertucci’s restaurant in the Silver City Galleria, where a recent stabbing took place. Police officer Josh DeOliveira was working at the restaurant Friday to help keep staff safe and calm.

During his shift, DeOliveira handed the each of the employees an envelope that contained $100. It was the money he would have earned working the detail.

“He wants us to feel supported and restore our faith in people. The tears keep running. I am so overwhelmed by love in a time of distress. Miracles happen and there are everyday heroes all around us,” Sutherland said in a Facebook post Friday.

In a telephone interview with the Taunton Daily Gazette on Friday, Sutherland that DeOliveira told the staff who was working Friday that it didn’t feel right to him to get paid to be there after the stabbing.

Last Tuesday, Arthur DaRosa, 28, stabbed two people in Bertucci’s. Server Sheenah Savoy was injured and George Heath, a customer, was killed when he stepped in to protect Savoy. DaRosa was then shot dead on the scene by a police officer when he refused to back down.

DeOliveira’s kindness helped restore Sutherland’s faith in humanity.

“It was very overwhelming emotionally in a positive way. It brought a lot of light back to humanity for me,” she said.

Taunton Police Chief Edward Walsh said he was not aware of what DeOliveira did.

“It’s an excellent reflection on him and the caliber of person he is. It’s just a good-feeling thing to do,” he said.

It certainly was, and his good deed demonstrated just how far an act of kindness can go. It’s good to see these kinds of stories pop up when there is so much anti-cop sentiment going around.
