WaPo Outright Lies About Eric Trump, Selectively Edits Hannity Interview, Then Publishes

After Eric Trump gave a detailed interview to Fox News host Sean Hannity about the positive impact of the GOP tax cuts, The Washington Post has been busted for selectively editing the comments to make President Donald Trump’s second son look bad.

On Wednesday, according to Newsbusters, the Post published a (since corrected) “Wonkblog” analysis originally titled, “Eric Trump’s 401(k) is up by 35 percent, but half of American families don’t even have one.”

The president’s son’s words were taken out of context by the left-leaning paper in their presumed quest to mock Trump as a silver-spoon, snobby rich kid.

“I just opened up my 401(k), I haven’t looked at in a year. It’s up by 35 percent. I didn’t think retirement was possible,” Post correspondent Christopher Ingraham reported Trump as saying during his interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity.

In his piece, Ingraham wrote: “Set aside the fact that Trump, heir to a multibillion-dollar fortune and an already-wealthy businessman in his own right, the returns on a measly $18,500 in annual 401(k) contributions have little bearing on his ability to stop working.”

The issue is that Ingraham only used a portion of Trump’s full quote, which made it appear as if he was bragging about his own 401(k).

But when we look at his full quote, which the Post definitely had access to, Trump said hard-working Americans tell him every single day that their 401(k)s were doing well since Trump took office.

Here’s Trump’s full quote, as reported by NewsBusters:

ERIC TRUMP: They [the media] were supposed to be the smart people…they’re the brilliant journalists. They all got it wrong. He quite frankly embarrassed them and they’re doubling down again. And he is going to prove them wrong again and again. Because you know what, every day, I have told you this metaphor a thousand times, but every single day I walk on the street and people come up to me, they hugged me. “Tell your father we say thank you. You know what, I just opened up my 401(k), I haven’t looked at in a year. It is up by 35 percent. I mean, I didn’t think retirement was possible”…These are the stories I hear every single day, Sean.

Do you believe the Washington Post deliberately misquoted Eric Trump?

It’s clear as day that Eric Trump said Americans ask him to thank his father, President Trump, for their 401(k) skyrocketing since he took office.

But the Post outright lied and only used a portion of his quote to paint him as the snobby kid getting rich while Americans aren’t seeing any benefits.

That’s the same lie the liberal media told when the GOP tax cuts bill was passed in December, and look how the narrative has dramatically changed in less than a month.

At least 164 companies have already rewarded their employees because of the tax cuts, which will take effect in February.

The GOP tax bill will allow an overwhelming majority of Americans to keep more of their own money, help grow our already booming economy, and create more jobs.

It has also resulted in the stock markets reaching unprecedented levels, giving Americans with a 401(k) a big bump in their returns.

Because the president’s son was sharing stories about how Americans are doing much better in the Trump economy, the Post used a selectively edited quote to try and take away from that.

The liberal media will do anything to keep people from seeing how great Trump’s doing.

Fortunately, they keep getting caught.
