Watch: Fearless Lindsey Graham Spews Fire After Ford Testimony

Share

The Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing on Thursday to receive the sworn testimony of Christine Blasey Ford, who has accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct against her at a high school party in 1982.

Flanked by two high-profile liberal attorneys, Debra Katz and Michael Bromwich, Ford delivered an emotional testimony of her recollection of the alleged incident in question. And though she stated with no uncertainty that Kavanaugh was the person who assaulted her 36 years ago, she was decidedly less certain on a host of other related and non-related issues, both from the time in question and in recent months.

Following the conclusion of her testimony, reporters gathered around South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham in a hallway outside the hearing room to ask for his take on the proceedings thus far, prior to the beginning of the second portion of the hearing where Kavanaugh would address and rebut the allegations against him.

Graham was, quite surprisingly to some, figuratively on fire in his remarks, so much so that some people on social media referred to the typically calm gentlemen senator as a “bad a**.”

Graham said, “When they say that she wasn’t sure we were willing to go out there, that’s a bunch of bull. I don’t know what they told Ms. Ford, but we were willing to go to California. We were told she couldn’t fly.”

“All I can say is that we are 40-something days away from the election, and (Democrat’s) goal — not Ms. Ford’s goal — is to delay this past the midterms so they can win the Senate, and never allow Trump to fill the seat. I believe that now more than ever,” he continued.

“I don’t know who paid for her polygraph, but somebody did. Here’s what I’m more convinced of: My friends on the other side set it up to be just the way it is. I feel ambushed, as the majority,” said Graham.

“I’ve been a judge, a prosecutor and a defense attorney, and here’s what I’ll tell you: When it comes to where it happened, I still don’t know, I don’t know when it happened, she said she’s 100 percent certain it did happen, I bet you Judge Kavanaugh will say ‘I’m 100 percent sure I didn’t do it,’ the people named say they don’t know what Ms. Ford is talking about, she can’t tell us how she got home or how she got there,” he continued.

Do you agree that Sen. Graham was justifiably angry about the utter debacle Democrats have turned the confirmation process into?

“And that’s the facts I’m left with. A nice lady who has come forward to tell a hard story that’s uncorroborated — and if this is enough, God help anybody else who gets nominated,” said Graham.

“Based on what I heard today, you could not get a search warrant or an arrest warrant, because you don’t know the location, you don’t know the time, you don’t have any corroboration,” he added.

As for his thoughts on the prosecuting attorney asking questions on behalf of Republicans, Rachel Mitchell, and his Democrat colleagues on the committee, Graham said, “As to Ms. Mitchell, that’s what I hoped she would do. I heard a bunch of speeches from a bunch of politicians who have politicized this from Day One, who’ve been lying in wait for a political purpose — not Ms. Ford, but certainly them — making a bunch of speeches.

“And Ms. Mitchell methodically went through the facts of what happened that day, leading up to that day, and how we find ourselves here, so from my point of view, I’m pleased with what I saw,” he added.

A reporter from Bloomberg named Steven Dennis tweeted that he’d “Never seen Lindsey Graham as angry as he has been the last 24 hours.”

Graham was indeed angry, and his anger is quite righteous and entirely justified. He has watched as the confirmation process has been upended and turned into a sordid debacle of a circus full of unsubstantiated allegations, baseless rumors, salacious innuendos and unadulterated partisanship that has made a mockery of Senate tradition and the societal foundations of due process and a presumption of innocence.

You’re darn right he’s angry, as are millions of other Americans who are aghast at the travesty of justice playing out before them.
