Watch: Knife-Wielding Man Walks into Station, Asks To Be Shot, but Cops Stun Instead of Shoot

Share

The mainstream media doesn’t seem to like cops very much, even when they are shown not to be bloodthirsty racist killers.

The New York City Police Department put their cool heads on full display when “an emotionally disturbed man” walked into a Brooklyn station carrying a knife and was detained without being shot.

Chief Terence Monahan tweeted the video on Sunday, which showed a black man enter the station carrying a large knife. Officers did draw their weapons but demonstrated restraint while the man was stunned and apprehended.

Monahan reported via Twitter that the man “asked to be shot.”

“Cops face split second, life & death decisions every day. When an emotionally disturbed man holding a long knife walked into the @NYPD75Pct — and asked to be shot — these cops reacted quickly. Though prepared for the worst, they delivered a safe outcome for everyone. Well done!”

Law enforcement is incredibly difficult. Chief Monahan is correct when he said cops often have to make heavy decisions quickly, a job for which nobody is truly prepared.

That said, incidents like that one happen more often than tragic ones. It’s no surprise that narrative-busting stories get far less coverage than those ending in death.

Do you think law enforcement officers are predominantly good?

Of course, tragic mistakes do happen, and hopefully justice is always served in these cases, no matter who was in the wrong.

But that doesn’t mean that we can’t praise law enforcement officers when they act in a reasonable manner and preserve the safety of everybody involved.

This video comes on the heels of more disheartening stories involving the New York Police Department.

On July 22, videos emerged of assailants dousing police with water while attempting to make routine arrests. Two separate instances of the disrespect were recorded.

WARNING: The following videos contain vulgar language that some viewers may find offensive.

Fortunately, multiple men seen in those videos have since been arrested.

Maybe if more instances of restraint like those become public, police officers will stop having to weather so much bad-faith criticism.
