Watch: Liberal Students Begin Turning Against Pelosi: 'Compromise, Compromise, Compromise'
Liberal college students were quick to blame President Donald Trump for the government shutdown, but they turned on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi when they heard about Trump’s compromise.
Cabot Phillips, media director for Campus Reform, interviewed liberal students at George Mason University about the government shutdown.
At first, the interviewed students unanimously blamed Trump for the shutdown.
“I would say Trump is to blame,” one student said.
Then Phillips asked the students if Democrats should accept a compromise if Trump made concessions like added protections for DACA recipients.
“They should allow some funding for the wall for now if Trump were to agree to some of their terms as well,” one of the liberal students said.
Phillips broke the news to the students — Trump already attempted to compromise with Democrats.
On Saturday, Trump offered Democrats added protections for DACA recipients, $800 million for humanitarian aid, and 75 new judges to take on immigration-related cases.
Those are all measures that Democrats support, but left-wing lawmakers refused to pass the bill because it contained Trump’s $5.7 billion border wall.
But at least the students seemed to support Trump’s compromise.
“Okay, that’s awesome then,” one student said.
“I am pleasantly surprised that he’s offered those things for sure,” another student reacted.
The students admitted that Democrats should have accepted the compromise.
“It was a wrong move for her to turn it down,” one student said, referencing Pelosi’s resistance.
Another student had a message for Pelosi: “Compromise, compromise, compromise.”
Everyone is getting tired of the shutdown, and it would come to an end if Pelosi was willing to fund the wall.
Some Democrat lawmakers are even beginning to turn on Pelosi.
For example, Democrat House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer has contradicted Pelosi multiple times in recent weeks.
Hoyer admitted last week that a border wall does work “in some places” and rejected Pelosi’s claim that a border wall is “immoral.”
As another example, Democrat Rep. Collin Peterson outright said that Trump should get the money for the wall.
It won’t be long until more Democrats start to push back against Pelosi.
If liberal college students can agree that Pelosi is being unreasonable, lawmakers should be able to recognize it as well.
