Watch: Russian-Made Tank Taken Out in Syria Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue

A United States drone operating in Syria obliterated a Russian-made T-72 battle tank on Saturday, and the video footage shows what our troops of capable of doing.

As reported by Military.com, a U.S. MQ-9 Reaper drone destroyed the tank in a “self-defense” strike after pro-Syrian regime forces reportedly fired on U.S. advisers and allied Syrian fighters.

Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Harrigian, head of Air Forces Central Command, said Tuesday that Syria has become hotly contested as additional operators and officials continue to maintain a presence in the area.

Harrigian told reporters from the Combined Air Operations Center at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, that coordinating military response decisions has made it difficult to identify which groups are friendly or hostile. He said it wasn’t clear who was operating the tank that was destroyed — Russian forces or those loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad.

“We rely upon our folks who are on the ground to make that decision, primarily the ground force commander,” Harrigian said.

He added: “What happened in that particular scenario is the tank that fired was within an effective range to target our SDF and advisers on the ground, which clearly provides [the ground commander] the ability to defend himself. And he made that decision, appropriately so, and that was the result.”

The video of the drone hitting the tank, which was uploaded to Military.com, might be black and white, but the results are pure red, white, and blue.

Around the 15-second mark in the clip, the screen goes completely dark when the missile strikes the tank.

The U.S. has been training, arming, and supporting the Syrian Defense Forces in Syria’s civil war for years.

Russia has been providing similar support to forces loyal to the Assad regime, which operate in close proximity to the U.S.-backed SDF forces.

The drone strike on the tank reportedly came three days after pro-Assad forces attacked SDF forces in Deir el-Zour Province in Syria.

According to Business Insider, more than100 Russians and Syrian regime forces were killed during the strike.

Harrigian said U.S. officials are still assessing how many were actually killed as a result of the airstrike.

But he said the U.S. strike was carried out in self-defense, saying they saw a large size group charging toward his unit.

Do you think the U.S. has the right to defend itself against attacks in the region?

“What we saw coming at us was approximately a battalion-sized unit,” he said. “We continue to look at what those forces were composed of … and it’s going to take some time to fully understand who was down there … and there’s a fair number of groups involved with this, and it’s always difficult to sort that out.”

Nevertheless, the drone footage is pure red, white, and blue.

And more importantly, it illustrates how powerful the U.S. military is and what they are capable of when an enemy tries to test their luck.

This video should serve as a strong reminder about what will happen to those who mess with our military.
