Watch: Trump Not Happy as Foreign Leader Dozes Off During WW1 Ceremony

Share

President Donald Trump was in France over the weekend to mark the 100-year anniversary of the end of the “Great War,” the supposed “War to end all Wars,” that has since become known as World War One, which raged from 1914 to 1918 and claimed tens of millions of lives.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, there was controversy among the American media and some world leaders after Trump did not make an appearance at a special ceremony on Saturday to pay homage to the U.S. Marines who had fought and died in the area known as Belleau Wood, which the media had framed as a callous and inconsiderate act on Trump’s part.

The liberal media — always quick to assume the worst about Trump — pronounced that he had skipped that ceremony because he didn’t care about the American troops who were lost and buried in that military cemetery and merely didn’t want to get his hair wet in the heavy rain.

As it turned out, the heavy rain and low cloud ceiling had prompted the military to ground the president’s Marine One helicopter, and the Secret Service had decided a last-minute plan to drive to the ceremony — located roughly 55 miles south of Paris — would have proven “logistically challenging” for the presidential motorcade and would have caused massive traffic disruptions for hours in and around the capital city.

But for all of the media’s pile-on over Trump missing the ceremony — not to mention their abject glee at French President Emmanuel Macron‘s ludicrous characterization of “nationalism” as being the opposite of patriotism (hint: It isn’t.) — they have all but ignored another controversial moment that took place at the main ceremony marking the armistice that ended the war which was duly noted by Trump himself.

As the cameras panned the audience of gathered world leaders who were listening to Macron’s speech, it was noticed that the King of Morocco — who was seated right next to first lady Melania and President Trump — was dozing off while Macron was talking.

One particular camera angle with a close-up of the leaders continued to pan across and hilariously revealed Trump casting a rather perturbed glance at the napping king.

Another camera angle that wasn’t zoomed in as close also caught the “death stare” Trump had affixed on the sleepy monarch more widely, but his disdain at the show of disrespect was nevertheless still quite apparent.

Was Trump right to cast a glaring side-eye at the sleepy king?

Meanwhile, as Trump glared at the dozing king, the first lady maintained her ever-present calm and poised demeanor, even as she was no doubt well aware that the leader of Morocco was nodding off beside her.

It remains to be seen if the media will side with Trump in this instance and call out the sleepy king for failing to pay attention to Macron’s admittedly droning speech — as everyone else was apparently capable of doing — or if they will criticize Trump for casting a side-eye at the show of disrespect.

That last line was really just a rhetorical statement, as we already know the media will never willingly side with Trump on anything. Indeed, some in the media have seemingly cozied up with actual enemies to this nation — such as the Islamic State group, the mullahs of Iran and North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un — in order to stand in opposition to Trump.

In all likelihood, there will soon be reports excusing the Moroccan king for his nap for all sorts of various reasons, and Trump will deemed as the disrespectful one for paying attention to the king instead of Macron, or some other such nonsense.

As an aside, how awesome was that glare from Trump? It is a safe bet that few would like to be on the receiving end of such a look.

In the end, this was little more than one world leader falling asleep while listening to another world leader ramble on as a third world leader looked on in disgust — something that probably happens on a semi-regular basis at gatherings such as this one.

Far less often, however, does it get caught on camera and go viral on social media.
