The Islamic State group left a car exposed in Mosul, Iraq, presumably filled with explosives.
If it wasn’t a car bomb, there’s no accounting for the massive explosion that ensued when a Royal Air Force Typhoon destroyed it.
The Typhoon, according to the source that originally published the video, utilized a Paveway guided bomb to detonate the target. Paveway guided bombs use lasers to direct the weapon to the target.
The combination of the bomb and the explosives already in the vehicle created such a large explosion that the gun camera actually had to zoom out to show it all.
There did not appear that there were any occupants of the vehicle at the time.
The Islamic State group was once a fairly large and formidable group, and although they are still to be taken seriously, their numbers have seriously dwindled.
According to IHS Markit, Islamic State group territory has shrunk 16 percent in the first nine months of this year.
Although the terrorist group has diminished significantly in size, it is still significant enough in both numbers and territory to make countering it an important part of the next presidency. The Islamic State group still holds a large amount of territory in Syria in particular.
