On Friday, a Texas woman walked into a funeral home and did something to a dead woman’s body that left the family in utter shock.
She stole the wedding ring right off the deceased woman’s finger.
Video surveillance released by Sunset Funeral Home in Odessa showed a woman walking into a visitation room, lean over the dead woman’s body and wrestle with getting the ring off the finger before walking out of the room with it.
The family had just left the room where the body of Lois Hicks was in its coffin when the theft occurred.
Vel McKee, Hicks’ daughter, said she’d never seen the woman before. McKee also said the woman tore off some of Hicks’ skin when she stole the ring.
“I can’t believe someone would be that low,” she told the Odessa American Saturday.
It is shocking to watch because the woman leaned over the body and struggled for over a minute to remove the ring.
Bill Vallie, general manager of the funeral home, said the woman walked in the funeral home and asked where the restroom was but instead went into the room where Hicks’s body was kept. There’s no way to restrict who enters the home, he explained.
“It made me sick,” McKee said. “We just never dreamed that something like this would happen. Not in a million years.”

Odessa Police released the video along with the suspect’s car in hope of catching the thief. They are asking anyone with information about the incident to call 432-333-TIPS.
This kind of crime is just despicable — and it proves that some people will steal anything from any body, literally.
