Woman Posts Security Cam Footage of Marine Vet Fed-Ex Driver Rescuing Her Flag

A disturbing and growing trend among the ideological left is a display of utter contempt and disrespect for the American flag, most notably exemplified by the embrace of NFL players kneeling during the playing of the national anthem, not to mention among leftist protests on city streets and college campuses.

Fortunately, there are still plenty among us who still hold the American flag and all it represents in high regard, and treat the national banner with the respect that it deserves.

An example of that immense respect for the American flag was recently displayed by a FedEx driver in Ferndale, Maryland, who went out of his way while on his delivery route to rescue a flag that had fallen to the ground in a family’s front yard after high winds broke the pole it was flying on.

The inspiring moment was captured on the home surveillance video system of a homeowner named Gail Cook, who posted the video to Facebook on Nov. 28 with a message that read:

“Today our flag pole broke with the high winds. The FedEx driver saw this when he was driving by and stopped. He not only picked up the flag but folded it properly and put it away safely on our porch. Thanks FedEx!!! I hope he gets the recognition he deserves, I can’t thank him enough!”

As can be seen in the video, an American flag as well as one for the Baltimore Ravens football team were on the ground when the FedEx driver came by. Even though he had no packages to deliver to that address, he nevertheless stopped and took time out of his busy day to retrieve the flags off the ground and place them safely on the homeowner’s porch.

First, though, the courteous driver took the time to properly fold the American flag into a triangle, a task made exceedingly difficult by the gusting winds. The driver even had to momentarily retreat to the relatively wind-proof safety of his truck to complete the precise fold.

Once he had folded the American flag into a triangle, he proceeded to neatly fold the Ravens flag as well, then placed both inside a basket on the porch so they wouldn’t be blown away by the wind again.

Are you proud to see people treat the American flag with dignity, honor and respect?

The Baltimore Sun reported that the FedEx driver was later identified as Mike King, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who has been delivering packages to the home of Cook, her husband, Eric, and their two children, for several years.

In an interview with the Sun, Cook explained that when she arrived home and found her flags neatly folded on her porch, she quickly reviewed the security camera footage to figure out how they got there.

That is when she discovered the good deed done by King, one she found even more extraordinary considering the number of cars that had passed by the home and ignored the fallen American flag on the ground.

“He was just driving by and stopped. He’s a former Marine, and for him to do that, it was just so nice of him,” Cook told the newspaper.

“He did this not knowing anyone was watching — he just did it because it’s the right thing to do. And we just really appreciate that he took the time to do that for us,” she added.

FedEx issued a statement of praise for their conscientious delivery driver.

“FedEx Ground is proud of the many contributions our team members and vendors make to our local communities every day,” the statement said. “We commend the patriotic actions of Mike King, a service provider employee who went above and beyond to properly care for a fallen American flag while on his route.”

As for King, while he couldn’t be reached for comment by the Sun, he did respond with a comment to Cook’s Facebook post.

Gail Cook it’s the Marine way, would have done better justice for Lady glory if the wind wasn’t gusting at 50 lol,” he wrote. “You and Eric are welcome I couldn’t just drive by and do nothing.”

This FedEx driver could have been like all the other drivers that day and simply ignored the fallen flag and gone on about his day.

But this driver was a Marine who’s had a deep respect for the American flag and all it represents instilled within him, so he took the time to give that flag the honor and respect it was due.
